Ramadan The Blessed Month Of Reflection
Latest Stories Headlines
25 August 2009
By Babandi Gumel
This year most of the Muslim Countries including those in the Middle East and Muslims living in UK and across Europe and America as well as the Muslims in Nigeria have all started the blessed Month of Ramadan almost the same time.
Alhamdu Lillahi this is a sign of blessings and unity among the Ummah seen unfortunately as fragmented and divided .
The Month of Ramadan has given the Muslims the opportunity to reflect and move forward as anyone who fasts with purity of belief and expectations of reward will have his previous sins forgiven as mentioned in Hadith .
This is the Month of renewing our commitment and re-establishing better Relationship with our Creator.
As it is the spring season for goodness and virtues when righteousness blossoms throughout the Muslim Communities this is why the whole Muslim Ummah do collectively welcome the blessed Month by engaging themselves in different forms of worship.
The Blessed Month of Ramadan offers every Muslim the opportunity to renew and strengthen his Iman and purifying his heart and soul thus removing the evil effect of the sins committed in the year.
As we all know other good deeds such as Salah Zakah and Hajj are purely meant for the benefit of human being himself but Fasting as Allah has mentioned is exclusively meant for Him alone and therefore is Only Allah that would give its reward.
This is why it is said in Hadith a person who keeps fast would have double joys one at the time of breaking his fast and the other at the time of death when he/she meets Allah the Creator.
The Prophet Muhammad is reported to have said “My Ummah has been given five things which were not given to other Ummah before.
1 the odour of the mouth of a fasting person is more fragrant to Almighty Allah than the musk.
2 The Angels continuously seek forgiveness on behalf of the fasting persons till they break their fast.
3. Allah adorns the Paradise everyday in Ramadan saying “The time is near when my pious servants shall be freed from worldly engagement and will come to you.
4th the Shayateen are shackled and restrained from inciting and causing mischief to people as they do outside Ramadan and finally the fasting persons are all forgiven in the last night of Ramadan. In order to gain the full blessings of the Month and realise its importance and significance the Prophet has divided the whole Month into three equal parts the first ten days which brings the Mercy of Allah second ten days forgiveness and the last ten days salvation from the fire of hell.
Along with the possibility of great reward there is the risk of a terrible loss if we allow the Month pass by carelessly so therefore we should endeavour to do more to please Allah in this Blessed Month.
The person who misses just one day of Ramadan without any legitimate reason cannot really make up for it even if he were to fast everyday for the rest of his life.
The Month of Ramadan offers the opportunity for all of us to gain the Mercy the forgiveness of Allah and safety from the fire and finally an entry into Paradise which is the only sign of success after death.
Unfortunately there are those who get nothing from their fast except hunger and thirst therefore we should rededicate ourselves to total commitment so as to gain the blessings of Allah and His Pleasure in this Blessed Month of Ramadan that has the potential of making us constantly aware of the Presence of our Creator.
If a person refrains from eating and drinking without having to gain the pleasure of Allah then he gains nothing as Ramadan helps to develop our character and manners as it is the month of patience, perseverance in preparation for the life hereafter.
This is the best time to reflect and contemplate by seeing how many Ramadan have we fasted and how many have we wasted and the number of time we have more left before we return back to our Creator in our final journey to our destination after death.
May be today we are bragging and boasting of our positions but we should remember one day we would be laid all alone in the dark solitude of our grave with no body to help us except of course our Iman and good deeds.
How many have we discharged sincerely for the sake of Allah?
How many acts equated as camouflage with different worldly motives thus gaining nothing from the Creator for insincerity therefore this is the best time to correct our niyyah and do more good deeds purely for the sake of Allah.
We should take stock of ourselves to see whether we have taken part in extra Salah such as Taraweeh Qiyamul Lail, engaged in Zikr Reading of the Quran Listen to Tafseer, paid the poor due i.e Zakah and have given extra Sadaqah during this blessed Month so as to achieve our goals thus coming closer to Allah .
The Prophet had said all Actions are judged according to intention so therefore we should purify and correct our intention so as to make it pure and sincere for the sake of Allah .
The Month of Ramadan is the Month of sincere Worship that will help rebuild our spiritual strength, a real training and communion with the Creator and above all Reflection as we go closer to our graves every day. Wa Akhiri Daaawana Anil Hamdu Lillahi Rabbil Alameen
