after the Abyssinan (Ethiopian)
Companion of the Prophet Bilal Bin Rabah
who was the first man to announce time
for prayer (mu’adhdhin). The Prophet (s.a.w.)
entrusted him with the office of
custodianship of the prayer-sprear (‘anaza).
He participated in all missionary
campaigns and heroic battles by the
Prophet. Traditions described him as the
Prophet’s steward (kha^zin) for his
duty to look after the food supply on
journeys. Teachings from the Prophet had
been recorded from him. He died and was
buried in Damascus in 20 A.H about the
age of 60. May Allah Be Pleased With Him

& Theology
named
after the Companion of the Prophet Uqbah
Bin Nafi’ who had arrived at the of
heart Africa as early as 40’s A.H
where he built a splendid Muslim centre
at Qairwan in 55 A.H. The great Muja^hid
of Africa took his mission to the
African ancient empires, including the
thrilling Empire of (old) Mali and the
vast Empire of (old) Ghana. He had been
particularly famous for his faithful
statement made at seaside of Atlantic
west of Sahara: “O my Lord (Allah
s.w.t)! I wish I had known of any land
beyond this sea (of Atlantic), I would
have gone there, struggling in Your
Cause”. May Allah Be Pleased With Him

Department Of Mansa For Sociology &
Jurisprudence
named
after the West African Muslim emperor
Kankan Mansa Mousa who had tranformed
the African Ancient Empire Of (old) Mali
to a prosperous Islamic nation 653 A.H -
688 A.H. Emperor Mansa introduced
numbers of reforms and development
programmes for the Africans - including
first welfare services in Sub-Sahara. He
made an official state visit to Egypt
where he presented gifts of pure gold to
ruler An Nasir Muhammad Bin Qala^wun 641
A.H. He had also been received by rulers
of Arabia where he performed pilgrimage
in Mecca 643 A.H. He died 688 A.H. May
Allah Have Mercy On Him

& Theology
named
after the West African Muja^hid and
ruler ‘Uthma^n Dan Fodio (born in 1168
A.H) who had led victorous armies of
African Muslim state Sub-Sahara. His
leadership quality had given Sub-Sahara
the confidence to develope and defend
themselves against foreign powers - most
notably the Europeans - before he
established his legendary Islamic
fortress in Sokoto (state of today’s
Nigeria). His heroic skills in self-defence
occupy volumes of historians’ pages.
He wrote many valuable books in
Jurisprudence, Theology, Literature, and
Humanities. He died 1213 A.H. May Allah
Have Mercy On Him

Jurisprudence
named
after Aishah Adelabu, a Muslim African
mother (of the founder of AWQAF) who had
been named after Bint Abi Bakri (also
know as Umm ‘Abdullah and) - the
favourite wife of the Prophet, occupying
irreplaceable place amongst the most
distinguished teachers of Islamic
Studies with collection of 1,210
teachings recorded as having been
delivered by her direct from the
Prophet. Aishah Adelabu, like Aishah -
the Mother of the faithful - May Allah
Be Pleased With Her, had been caring,
prioritizing - against all odds -
Islamic Studies for her children. She
died 1402 A.H. May Allah Have Mercy On
Her
