It is a Sunnah
that one Imam leads all pilgrims. If
this is not possible then every group
should have an Imam to admonish, advise,
escort them to do good deeds and
instruct them in the rites of Hajj and 'Umrah.
The Imam should follow in the footsteps
of the Prophet (PBUH) and give a Khutbah
as the Prophet did in the year of
Farewell Hajj. The first Khutbah: The
Imam must give it in Mecca on the
seventh day of Dhul-Hijjah to instruct
pilgrims in the different kinds of Ihram
e.g. Tamattu'. He must guide the people
of Mecca on how to assume the state of
Ihram. He must explain, in detail, the
rites of Hajj and 'Umrah to the pilgrims
and end his Khutbah with explaining the
prescribed standing at 'Arafah. The
Second Khutbah: The Imam must give
in 'Arafah to instruct pilgrims on the
rites of this sacred day. He should say
Allah is the Great, there is no god but
Allah, supplicate to Allah and urge
people to follow suit until he makes
sure that all pilgrims became
well-acquainted with these rites and can
perform them on their own. The third
Khutbah: The Imam must give it on the
day of Nahr (Sacrifice) to instruct
people in the prescribed rites of
throwing pebbles, shaving sacrifice and
Tawaf (Circumambulation). The Fourth
Khutbah: The Imam must give it on the
day of the first departure (the 12th of
Dhul Hijjah) to instruct the pilgrims
who are in a hurry and those who want to
stay longer in devotion and what to do.
