August 9, 2008 In occupied Kashmir, complete
strike was observed today, to protest against
the anti-Muslim riots and economic blockade by
Hindu communal groups of Jammu.
All shops, business establishments,
educational institutions, courts, banks,
government and semi-government offices
remained closed and traffic was off the roads
in all towns and cities of the occupied
territory.
The puppet authorities had deployed heavy
contingent of paramilitary force and police
personnel at Rajouri Kadal, Nowhatta, Buhri
Kadal, Zaina Kadal, Fateh Kadal, Khanyar,
Qamarwari and Safa Kadal in Srinagar. Senior
Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and
APHC leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah were put under
house arrest.
The fast unto death by the Chairman of
Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Mohammad
Yasin Malik at Maisuma in Srinagar entered the
second day, today, against the excesses of
Hindu extremists of Jammu on Muslims.
Meanwhile, over 8000 Hindu fanatics raided
a Muslim village at Jorian in Akhnor burning
two Muslims alive and injuring 20 others. The
fanatics destroyed three vehicles and 16
motorcycles. Dozens of Huts belonging to the
Muslim community were also torched.
Twenty-five Kashmiri passenger vehicles were
stopped, looted and their drivers were
critically injured by Hindu extremists, in
Udhampur and Samba.
On the other hand, due to the blockade, the
Kashmir valley is fast running short of food
products, particularly mutton, dairy items,
fuel, baby food and other essential
commodities, besides medicines.
Meanwhile, Executive Directors of Kashmir
Centres in Washington and London, Dr Ghulam
Nabi Fai and Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl in
their separate statements condemned the
economic blockade by the Hindu zealots and
also expressed solidarity with the JKLF
