August 6, 2008 The caretaker government
headed by premier Ismail Haneyya warned
Tuesday the Israeli occupation of making any
follies leading to the truce breach,
announcing at the same time the end of the
security campaign in the Shujaiyeh
neighborhood.
In a press conference following the weekly
cabinet meeting, Taher Al-Nono, the spokesman
for the government, stated that the cabinet
condemned the threats made by Israeli war
minister Ehud Olmert of resuming military
attacks on the Gaza Strip as racist and
confirming Israel's aggressive tendencies.
Nono added that the cabinet stressed the
retention of legal proceedings after the
termination of the security crackdown in
Shujaiyeh and designated the ministry of
public works to assess and make all necessary
repairs to collateral damage caused during the
crackdown.
The spokesman underlined that the
government decided to continue the procedures
for releasing all detainees who were proved
not to be involved in criminal acts and
recommended the reopening of all institutions
which did not break the law.
The spokesman strongly denounced Fatah
spokesman Ziyad Abu Ein for calling for using
armed violence in Gaza, saying that the
government warned against using this manner in
the inter-Palestinian relations and held Abu
Ein responsible for the repercussions of his
inflammatory call.
The spokesman called on the PA officials in
Ramallah to end the assaults of their security
apparatuses on West Bank citizens and private
and public institutions and release all
political detainees in their jails.
IOA killed 8 Palestinians
and arrested 380 others in one month
The international solidarity foundation for
human rights in Nablus city has confirmed in
its monthly report that the IOF troops killed
eight Palestinian citizens, including three
children, and rounded up more than 350 others
during the past month of July.
Two of the victims, according to the
report, were Palestinian Jerusalemites who
used bulldozers in attacking Israeli settlers
before Israeli policemen shut and kill them.
The report, however, attributed the
decrease in the number of the Palestinian
martyrs to the "fragile" truce agreement in
Gaza Strip between Hamas Movement and the
Israeli occupation although it stressed that
Israeli arrest campaigns were intensified as
the IOF troops arrested 380 Palestinians in
the West Bank and Gaza Strip over the same
period.
The West Bank city of Nablus city bore the
brunt of the arrest campaigns after 132 of its
residents, including lawmakers, students, and
activists were rounded up by the IOF troops.
Five women and 55 children were among the
kidnapped Palestinian citizens in Nablus city.
The city of Al-Khalil came next to Nablus
in terms of the number of people arrested as
the Israeli occupation soldiers captured 81
Palestinian citizens there. More Palestinian
citizens were also rounded up in the West Bank
cities of Tobas, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Jenin,
Tulkarem, and the occupied city of Jerusalem.
In this regard, the foundation called on
the international community and human rights
and legal organizations to immediately bridle
the Israeli crimes and aggressions against the
Palestinian people. |
