27 March 2009 Abuja — Zamfara State Governor,
Alhaji Aliyu Mahmuda Shinkafi, said he is ready to
reconcile with his predecessor, Senator Ahmed Sani
Yerima, only if the latter will be humble enough to
meet his conditions.
Shinkafi also clarified that, contrary to media
reports, Zamfara is now more peaceful, and stable than
it was under Yerima.Shinkafi was speaking through his
Chief of Staff, Alhaji Musa Zubariu, in Abuja
yesterday.According to him, "It has never been as good
and stable as we have it today in Zamfara State. All
that took place between 1999 and 2007 have been
completely overhauled. Peace has taken over and
democracy is gaining ground.
"He said the defection of the state government from
ANPP to PDP has established the state and given it
focus, and that those who are crying foul are those
who have lost relevance as a result of the defection.A
member of the House of Representatives from Zamfara
State, Bello Matawalle, has described Shinkafi's
defection as a mistake, and that the PDP is not
popular in the state. Responding, the Chief of Staff
said, "All those who are talking are Yerima's boys.
While their boss is seeking reconciliation with
Shinkafi, they are ignorantly scattering the process
for him.
Shinkafi and Yerima knows what it takes to achieve
reconciliation. Yerima can only make peace with
Shinkafi if he first seeks peace with the majority of
those in the present government whom he offended in
the last eight years.
He offended the present SSG when he served as his
speaker for eight years, the present speaker when he
was commissioner, and he worked against my being ANPP
secretary in the state, together with the former ANPP
chairman. He has offended about 90 per cent of those
in power today, and only an apology to them can save
him."On Mutawalle's remarks, he said, "He is a non
issue in Zamfara politics.
The man is a bundle of blunder who is struggling to
be relevant. We lost election in Maradun LGA in 1999
because we fielded him. While Shinkafi was building
classrooms, Matawalle was busy training thugs and
thinking backward. I want you to know, that Mamuda's
defection is in the best interest of the
state.Matawalle had lambasted the state government in
an interview and described the new PDP government as
blind and lacking in focus. |
