THE Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA)
has insisted on the trial of former President Olusegun
Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over
the Haliburton bribery scandal, saying the former
President's administration is to blame for President
Umaru Yar'Adua's failure to make an impact, two years
after.
The party in a statement by its National Publicity
Secretary, Chief Ben Onyechere, said "the deregulation
policy of the Obasanjo administration is one of the
reasons the Yar'Adua administration is still
struggling to grapple with the rudiments of governance
for two years. The financial recklessness visited on
our economy by Obasanjo through the privatisation
exercise is unquantifiable and it is necessary for the
EFCC to probe both him and the former Vice President
Abubakar.
"Yar'Adua cannot claim to be a servant-leader so
long as he refuses to adhere to public opinion that
Obasanjo and Atiku should be probed. Such scandals as
the Halliburton and PTDF as well as the sale of
Government properties, call for a thorough probe of
the Obasanjo administration.
The various scandals of the Halliburton and Siemens
briberies dwindles the moral fortunes of Yar'Adua
administration if any, and keeps us worrying about the
legitimacy of this Government of National Unity if the
Government can not listen to genuine advice such as
the one that calls for probe of Obasanjo and Atiku.
