25 April 2009 Kampala — The disposed Mufti of
Uganda, Sheikh Ramathan Shaban Mubajje, has called
upon Muslims to forget their wrangles and unite to
foster development.
Mubajje said unity would enable them solve their
own problems.
He was speaking during the last funeral rites
prayers (Duwa) for the late Juma Mukose, the father of
Mutabali Mukose, the Busiki county MP, at his home in
Bulange village in Namutumba district on Saturday.
Juma died on the March 10.
"The Judiciary acquitted me of charges that I sold
Muslim property. They proved me innocent and announced
that I am still a genuine Mufti," Mubajje said.
He urged Muslims to exercise forgiveness. Mubajje
promised not to hit back at his opponents until the
truth comes out.
Commenting on FDC party president Col. Kizza
Besigye's recent statement against him, Mubajje said
Besigye should stop fuelling disunity among Muslims.
He challenged the FDC president to quit politics
and contest for the post of the Mufti instead of
mixing politics with religion.
Mubajje urged Muslims to continue sending their
children to school, saying it was through education
that they would overcome poverty and develop the
country.
The eastern youth MP, Zaake Kibedi, urged FDC
leaders to ask Besigye to withdraw the statement he
made while attending the Duwa prayers for the former
FDC chairman, Dr. Badru Kiggundu, at Kibuli Mosque in
Kampala recently.
"Leaders are supposed to unite people but not to
fuel wrangles. Muslims have a constitution, which they
should use to solve their problems," said Zaake.
In attendance were the Deputy Speaker of
Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, minister Sulaiman Madaada,
Namutumba district Woman MP Lydia Kibwiika and
Namutumba LC5 chief Michael Saire. |
