Mubarak Torture Thongs At Large, Regime Terrorizing Own Citizens

Egyptian News Updates

22 April 2009

Sabry Amer has described the Egyptian police regime as a regime that works on “torturing and terrorising citizens”.

Amnesty International has asked Egypt to submit the statistics of the numbers of complaints of torture which had been investigated in the past few years and the number of police officers who were tried and convicted for committing acts of torture.

The Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights (EOHR) has called for the suspension of police officers accused in cases of torture, expressing its concern over the possibility of the return of the two police officers, who were convicted of torturing the driver Emad El-Kebir, to their work.

EOHR in its statement “the Ministry of Interior should not allow police officers who commit acts of torture to go back to their work”.

Meanwhile, the MP Sabry Amer, in a statement to Ikhwanweb, has doubted the willingness of the Egyptian regime to torture the perpetrators of crimes of war in Egypt, pointing out to the phenomenon of crimes of torture, known to all and committed before the eyes of the people.

Amer expected that crimes of torture in Egypt would continue as long as dictatorship and tyranny continues.
