25 April 2009 In occupied Kashmir, the Patron of
Peoples Democratic Party, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has
predicted another mass uprising if New Delhi didn’t
reduce troops and revoke the Armed Forces Special
Powers Act (AFSPA).
The statement quoting speeches of Mufti at Dooru
and Khannabal said that the Working Group constituted
by Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh had
recommended revocation of the AFSPA. He said that the
recommendations reflected the collective will of the
people of occupied Kashmir.
“People of Kashmir would rise against the continued
denial of justice if these recommendations are not
implemented,” Mufti said, asking New Delhi to consider
the matter seriously.
Mufti said that the PDP wanted the armed forces to
go back to the barracks. He said unless AFSPA was
revoked and troops didn’t return to barracks,
democracy would be without form and meaning in
Kashmir. »
People urged to remain aloof from polls process in
IHK
In occupied Kashmir, APHC leader and Chairperson of
Muslim Khawateen Markaz, Yasmeen Raja has called upon
people to stay away from the ongoing Indian
Parliamentary polls.
In a statement issued in Srinagar Yasmeen Raja said
that polls were no alternative to right to
self-determination for which the people of the
occupied territory had rendered countless and
unprecedented sacrifices.
Reacting over the illegal detention of APHC leaders
and workers, she said that the illegal arrests had
exposed the so-called Indian democracy, adding that,
on one side, India was claiming to be the biggest
democracy of the world and, on the other, it was
curbing rights to speech and expression in occupied
Kashmir.
Yasmeen Raja said that although the holding of
farcical polls in the occupied territory could not
change the disputed status of Kashmir but New Delhi
presented the polls to the world as an alternative to
right to self-determination.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of
Tehreek-e-Hurriyet Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf
Sehrai has said that India was conducting military
operation in the name of holding of elections.
In a statement in Srinagar he said that Indian
troops were harassing the people of Kashmir in the
garb of holding the sham polls. “The Indian state
terrorism couldn’t suppress the liberation movement
and the masses would continue their struggle for their
birthright of self-determination till its complete
success,” he added. »
