13 May 2009 Kampala — A Kenyan national is
stranded in Kampala after he was conned by tricksters
claiming to be selling diamond.
Fr. Geoffrey Naigamba based in Nairobi was
travelling to Cameroon for further studies, but made a
stopover in Uganda when he was duped, Police
spokesperson Judith Nabakooba told a weekly press
briefing at the Central Police Station in Kampala
yesterday.
She said the priest was approached by four conmen
who told him they had diamond which belonged to
victims of an accident who were admitted at Mulago
Hospital.
They claimed that they wanted to sell the diamond
to raise money to pay for the treatment of the
victims.
Nabakooba added that when Naigamba agreed to go
along with the men to see the victims at Mulago, one
of them grabbed his bag which contained a laptop,
Ksh4,000 (about sh7.5m), a mobile phone and two
passports and fled.
Two of the suspected conmen were later arrested by
the Police.
Nabakooba cautioned the public against getting
involved in seemingly-lucrative deals.
Man Blasts Wife Before Police
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a man recently
stunned onlookers when he blasted his wife for
stopping when she was flagged down cops at Bugolobi,
Kampala. Martha lacked a driving permit and the car
had no third party insurance. She called her husband
to come to her rescue. Within in a few minutes, Dan
was at the scene of his wife's woes.
He exchanged a few pleasantries with the cops
before turning his guns on the hapless wife. "Woman,
why did you stop when these lousy cops flagged you
down? How many times have I told you never to stop?",
he roared.
When he was done, he talked to the cops, who
released the car after agreeing to 'see' them the next
day. He then he drove off. |
