9 May 2009 CAIRO, (PIC)-- Amr Mousa, the Arab
League Secretary General, has lashed out at Israeli
premier Benjamin Netanyahu's conditions for peace
during an AIPAC speech, describing them as
"unacceptable".
Mousa said in a press statement on Wednesday that
there would be no return to past experiences that led
to complete failure of the peace process, and added,
"We will not accept partial solutions".
"The Arab initiative is final and there will be no
other Arab stands," Mousa underlined, adding that it
was clear that the Israeli premier was against the
two-state solution and favored negotiations without
preconditions, which means that he would continue in
building more settlements (on occupied Palestinian
lands).
The Secretary General described as a "big strategic
mistake" any Arab country's acceptance of such a
policy, and added that even the Palestinians should
not resume talks with the Israelis in light of this
policy.
Mousa hoped that the world community would "firmly"
confront the new Israeli "deceptive" campaign, which,
he said, only serves to confuse the peace process.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Awad, the secretary general of the
Palestinian cabinet in Gaza, has denounced the UN
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for neglecting the
international report that condemned Israeli war crimes
in Gaza Strip.
He told Al-Alam TV network on Wednesday evening that
Ban Ki-moon said that he would close further
investigation into the Israeli war crimes and no
charges would be pressed against the Israeli soldiers
and officers.
He regretted that the UN Secretary General had adopted
a negative stand of those "savage crimes" instead of
standing by the victims of Israeli brutality.
Awad asked the Arab League, OIC and all freedom loving
peoples of the world to pressure Ban Ki-moon into
adopting a balanced position toward the international
report.
The UN top official's stand would encourage Israel to
commit more crimes against the Palestinian people, he
warned. |
