17 May 2009 Sheikh Ra’ed Salah, the head of the
Islamic Movement in the 1948 occupied lands,
emphasized on Thursday that the Palestinian right is
stronger than the Israeli tanks and warplanes,
highlighting that the Palestinian refugees’ right of
return is historical inevitability and divine destiny.
In a speech delivered during a ceremony held by the
Islamic Movement in Kafr Kanna in the Galilee, Sheikh
Salah outlined the chapters of Israel’s crimes since
the Nakba and the displacement of Palestinians from
532 cities and villages, stressing that the
Palestinians’ struggle to stay in their land is
stronger than the Israeli policy of demolition and
displacement.
The Islamic Movement head also deplored the Pope of
the Vatican for his reluctance to apologize to Muslims
during his visit to the region for blasphemous remarks
made by the Vatican against Islam and for not
condemning the Israeli crimes committed daily against
the Palestinian people in Gaza.
In a press statement to the PIC, MP Fathi Al-Qaraawi
underlined Friday that the Palestinian refugees’ right
of return is inalienable and unchangeable no matter
how long it takes and how many bargains are made or
how hard some of those who stripped off their identity
try to waive this legitimate right.
“It is sad that this painful anniversary passes by
while our people, who celebrate it at home and abroad,
are counting the days and years hoping to return;
whereas, some group of the Palestinian people insist
on waiving this sacred right and acknowledging the
occupation’s right to the occupied Palestinian land,
but more than that this group pressures the resistance
factions that reject the occupation to recognize the
state of occupation,” MP Qaraawi said.
Khudari asks Obama to pressure
Netanyahu into lifting Gaza siege
The popular committee against the siege has asked
American president Barack Obama to pressure Israeli
premier Benjamin Netanyahu into ending the "unjust
siege" imposed on the Gaza Strip.
MP Jamal Al-Khudari, the head of the committee,
said in a statement on Sunday that Obama, who is
scheduled to receive Netanyahu on Monday, should
pressure him into lifting the more than two-year siege
that contravenes all international laws and principles
including the fourth Geneva convention, the
international declaration on human rights and moral
ethics.
He stressed that the American administration was
not a mediator between the Palestinian people and
Israel but rather was practicing unlimited bias in
favor of the Israeli occupation.
Granting the Palestinian people their rights would
spread peace, security and stability in the region,
Khudari said, adding that failure of the peace
negotiations were due to the American support for the
Israeli stands and the imbalance between the two
negotiating parties.
The MP called for a change in the American policy
in the region and for serious efforts to grant the
Palestinian people's rights to freedom and impendence
to be capped with the establishment of the Palestinian
state with Jerusalem as its capital and the return of
refugees.
