2 May 2009 Abuja — Federal Government will
continue to subsidise Muslim pilgrimage to Saudi
Arabia, particularly in the face of prevailing global
economic meltdown, President Umaru Yar'Adua assured in
Abuja on Thursday.
He gave the assurance at the Presidential Villa
when he received the Federal Government hajj
delegation to the 2008 pilgrimage led by the Amirul
Hajj and Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Dimeji Bankole.
The President commended the committee which
presented its report to him, for overcoming the
challenges which had been plaguing hajj operations in
the past.
"I can imagine the kind of challenges you have to
overcome to achieve this success. I have no doubt in
my mind that the report you have submitted will assist
the government to further improve airlifting
operations", the President said.
Praying for Allah's reward for the delegation, he
further assured that the recommendations in the report
submitted will be put to use, stressing that "we will
continue to improve on this operations" until it gets
better.
Presenting the report, Bankole said the team did
its best to ensure that the operation was successful
in spite of the challenges, noting that the success
achieved by the team has helped douse the doubts about
possible successes in pilgrims' airlifting and
welfare.
Other members of the delegation include Oba of
Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, Emir of Suleja, Ibrahim Alwar,
Laidi Tella, Lanre Badmus, Shehu Iyal, Sale Okenwa and
Abibu Habu, among others. |
