4 May 2009 Muslims in Lagos are praying for
divine guidance and peace to reign in tomorrow's
re-run election in Ekiti State even as they enjoined
President Umaru Yar'Adua to do what is just in the
political situation in Ekiti State.
Sheik Muhammed Mubashiru, the Sheu of Eko, Oba
Rilwanu Akiolu I and Alabi Macfoy, Basorun Musulumi of
Lagos, made the remarks yesterday at a special prayer
session to mark the 21 days fasting and praying for
the continued unity and peace in the country.
In his sermon at the prayer session, Mubashiru who
expressed worries over the palpable tension in Ekiti
due to rerun election prayed for spiritual guidance to
direct Mrs. Ayoka Adebayo, the Ekiti Resident
Electoral Commissioner (REC) to play according to the
rules of the game without any fear or favour.
His words: "May Allah instill his fear into the
minds of the leadership of this country to always do
what is just. It is a challenge to President Umaru
Yar'Adua to save this country from disintegration by
fearing Allah and do justice in the issue of Ekiti
State.
"Democracy is all about justice and the fear of
God. Yar'Adua, as a Muslim, should encourage peace and
not allow injustice to prevail," he said.
Akiolu, in the same vein, explained that the prayer
session was usually organised to seek God's mercy,
guidance and protection of the country.
Stressing that Lagos needed prayer the most, the
Oba prayed for God's intervention in the Ekiti
unfolding scenario and called on the Presidency and
the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
to steer clear of an act likely to bring chaos to the
state. |
