Abubakar at the weekend addressed the convention of
Muslim students of higher institutions on the need to
remain focused and disciplined to fit into the fast
evolving world and contribute their quota to nation
building.
The Sultan who declared open the four day
convention held at Government College Makurdi in
company of a representative of the Benue State
governor, Gabriel Suswam said as leaders of tomorrow,
youths must be put on the right track and properly
guided according to the injunctions of the Holy Quran.
He commended the initiative for the convention and
urged participants to remain focused and committed to
the recommendations of the convention.
The National Higher Institutions Convention of
Muslim Students (NHICOMS) was organized by Muslim
Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Zone A comprising
20 area units with the theme: "Evolving a morally
upright society: the role of the Muslim Student".
About 40 participants attended from across the 19
northern states of the federation.
A communiqué issued at the end of the convention
stressed the need for the Muslim Ummah to shun forced
marriage, saying it was unIslamic and should be
discouraged. "Female education at all levels should be
encouraged so as to get mothers that can effectively
and efficiently contribute their quarter to national
development", it said. The communiqué which was signed
by the Zonal NHICOMS Coordinator and Ameer BUK, Najeeb
A. A. Gambo and Audu B. Bukarti, respectively said:
"Islamic betrothal should be strictly adhered to, so
as to check the rampant rate of divorce. The Ummah is
urged to be united.
