23 May 2009 Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the
secretary-general of the organization of the Islamic
conference, on Friday strongly denounced the Israeli
occupation’s escalations to Judaize occupied
Jerusalem, urging the Islamic nation to support the
holy city and its people politically and financially.
In a press conference held on the eve of the meeting
of foreign ministers of Islamic states in Damascus,
Dr. Ihsanoglu stressed that Jerusalem needs now
Muslims’ support more than ever before.
He pointed out that the organization would work on
establishing health, educational, cultural and other
projects in Jerusalem to reinforce the steadfastness
of the Palestinian people.
In another related context, Dr. Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, the
head of the international federation of Muslim
scholars, called Friday at the opening session of the
international popular conference for the support of
Palestine held in Istanbul for pooling the efforts
throughout the world to support the Palestinian cause.
Dr. Qaradawi underlined that the conference is aimed
to make different efforts and forces coalesce into one
united body in order to support Palestine more
effectively.
He hailed the Palestinian people for their fortitude
and patience for the ordeals that beset them
especially during the last Israeli war.
The scholar also spoke at length about the escalating
Zionist threats against the holy city and its
indigenous people.
He highlighted that supporting Palestine is not
charity or a voluntary work, but it is an obligation
on all Muslims, calling for supporting and backing the
Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation.
