9 May 2009 Somalia — Eritrea's President Issayas
Afeworki said Wednesday that it was not his policy to
intervene Somali internal affairs and added that the
current Somali government is not deferent from the
previous governments.
Speaking to the reporters in Asmara, Issayas
Afeworki said it was not his policy and civilization
to meddle in Somalia's affairs.
The Somali government accused Eritrea of sending
arms shipments to Somali rebels and called for the
International community to stop "the meddling of
Eritrea."
"This government is not different from the
Transitional National Government led by Abdikasim
Salad Hassan and the federal government led by
Abdulahi Yusuf Ahmed, they all collapsed because of
Ethiopia's intervention," Afeworki said.
He said that his government did not recognize the
Somali government and added that the current
government is the same as the administrations of
Somaliland and Puntland.
Somali Government Describes
Country's Statement As Ridiculous
The minister for transportation of the Somali
government Ali Jama Jangali, described Monday
Eritrea's statement as ridiculous
Eritrea's information Ali Abdow, said on Sunday
that Eritrea did recognize the existence of the Somali
government on Sunday.
Mr. Jangali said it was not good thing to ask
"Eritrea's regime" something about the Somali affairs
and called for it to stop its intervention to Somali
affairs.
The minister said Somalia has a full support from
the International Community and it did not need any
recognition from what he called isolated regime.
The security minister of the Somali government Omar
Hashi Aden, condemned Eritrea on Sunday and accused
that two flights from Eritrea brought weapons to Belli
Dogle airport in Lower Shabelle region in southern
Somalia.
Eritrea supports the Asmara based wing of the
Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia which Sheik
Hassan Dahir Aweys leads it.
Eritrea and Ethiopia were accused of being playing
proxy war in Somalia, but both governments denied the
accusations. |
