UN Kashmiri New Direction? Leaders Welcome William Burn’s Statement

Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference and other liberation leaders have welcomed the statement of the United States Under Secretary of State, William Burns, over Kashmir, describing it as the first step towards the resolution of this vexed issue. The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while welcoming statement of the United States Under Secretary of State said “As soon as we are released, we will send a delegation to New Delhi. We will approach the US through its diplomatic office to convey our eagerness for resolution of Kashmir issue. We will appeal American government to press upon India to settle the Kashmir issue.” Mirwaiz said the Hurriyet leaders would also approach the European Union and Organization of Islamic Countries. “The US statement is an invitation for us and we will intensify our efforts to reach out to international agencies. We hope they will convince India for holding a tripartite dialogue between Pakistan, India and Kashmiris,” he said. The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik said, “The US is a common friend of both India and Pakistan and it can play a decisive role in settling the Kashmir issue,” Malik, who has been under house arrest for past 14-days, told media men over phone. “William Burns asking India and Pakistan to resolve the K-issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris is welcome development and a first step towards mitigating our sufferings,” he added. He said that world had realized that peace couldn’t prevail in the south Asia till Kashmir issue was resolved. “Time has come for New Delhi to give up its rigidity and hold serious deliberations with true representatives of Kashmiris. Indian leaders need to understand that voice of Kashmiris cannot be muzzled anymore,” he stressed. Acting Chairman Peoples League, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza has also welcomed the statements of AI and US. “It is the opportune time for India and Pakistan to address Kashmir issue and resolve it in accordance with Kashmiri asprrations,” he said. President Jammu Kashmir Mahaz-e-Azadi (MeA), Mir Mohammad Iqbal while welcoming the statement said “There is no denial of the fact that Kashmir being the nuclear flashpoint in South Asia, no peace is possible till an acceptable, durable and honourable solution of Kashmir is not choked out.” »
