World Hears Kashmiris’ Voice For Freedom’: ‘India Suppressing Kashmiris’ Voice
26 June 2009
The Executive Director Kashmir Centre Washington, Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai has hoped that the Kashmir dispute will be resolved soon in accordance with the self-determination of Kashmiri people. Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai while speaking at a function at the Centre in regards to the momentous 2009 Biennial National Convention of the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNAUSA) said, a UN resolution on Kashmir unequivocally mandates the inalienable right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people and reminds that the United States was the co-sponsor of the resolution. Dr Fai thanked the leadership of the UNAUSA for its principled commitment to justice, fairness and a lasting peace in the disputed territory of Kashmir. He said, the enlightened leadership of the UNAUSA has demonstrated its dedication to the right of self-determination for the Kashmiri people and we applaud their principled position. Discussing the importance of the UNAUSA, its Charter, he described it, as a non-profit membership organization, dedicated to building understanding and support for the ideal and vital work of the United Nations among American people. The clear implication, Dr Fai added, is that this major organization is clearly advocating India to take notice of its human rights abuses in Kashmir and allow the Kashmiri people their right of self-determination.’ He said that the Kashmir Centre was committed to finding a just and lasting peace to the disputed territory of Kashmir by ascertaining the aspirations of the people of the land. “It fully endorses the beginning of tripartite talks and a Kashmir peace process, including Pakistan, India and Kashmiri leaders, to resolve this longstanding dispute. It urges the international community to intervene on humanitarian grounds to ease the suffering of the innocent and unarmed Kashmiri population,” he added. » ‘India suppressing Kashmiris’ voice against HR abuses’ The All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC), condemning the arrest of pro-liberation leaders said that the Kashmiris are not being allowed to raise their voice against the human rights violations by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir. The APHC spokesman, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that the rape and killing of two women in Shopian was one of the worst forms of human rights violations. He denounced the continued house arrest of the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and shifting of Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Muhammad Saleem Nunnaji and others to Jammu jail. The spokesman expressed serious concerns over the falling health of illegally detained leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Aasiya Andrabi. Appealing the international human rights organizations to take strong note of the atrocities committed by Indian troopers against the people of Kashmir, the spokesman said that these groups should pressurise India to stop rights abuses in Kashmir and release all the detained leaders. The spokesman said that the APHC would very soon dispatch letters to the international human rights organizations including the Amnesty International, International Committee for Red Cross and Asia Watch to draw their attention towards the gross human rights violations in the occupied territory by the troops. On the other hand, the spokesman of Jamaat-e-Islami in occupied Kashmir, in his statement issued in Srinagar, also flayed the continued detention and arrest of the pro-movement leaders and activists. “The arrests and detentions of the leaders are undemocratic and inhuman,” he added. »
