Hariri Re-iterates He Would Not Join Hezbollah’s Government If The Group Wins
2 June 2009
Head of almustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Saad Hariri insisted that if the Shiite militant group Hezbollah and its allies win the June 7 vote he would not join the government but said he would reach out to the other party. Hariri confirmed “if we win the ballot we are willing to accept the other party to play its legitimate role in the government but without considering the obstructing third.” in interview with Egyptian National TV, Channel one Hariri stressed that "it is our duties as Arabs to protect the Palestinian cause, and anyone who wants to contribute to finding a solution should work for the benefit of Palestine itself and not for certain country.” He added “Syria’s interest is to focus on the Arab relations while dealing with others, which is a prerequisite to form successful ties.” He believed that Arab reconciliation is on the right track, and the alignment within its ranks would strengthen the Arabs’ position. Hariri hinted to the Israeli-Arab conflict which spanned roughly one century of political tensions and open hostilities, and noted “we have to bolster inter-Arab economy to form a power which enables us to economically woo international countries and face any imminent crisis.” Hariri declined that the US-Syrian openness would be at the expense of the International Tribunal, he noted “I’m not worried because the reapproachment would not affect the Tribunal but instead it supports it due to its international context.” He expressed optimism about Lebanon’s future and commended the Lebanese’ insatiable determination to realize freedom, independence and sovereignty. Hariri files complaints against Syria for arresting his supporters in West Beqaa Head of Almustaqbal Parliamentary bloc MP Saad Hariri announced on Monday his intentions to file complaints to the Syrian Ambassador Ali Abdel Karim Ali in protest against the detention of citizens of the Beqaa valley because they attended his electoral rally. Hariri said he voiced his complaints against the arbitrary detention committed by the Syrian Authorities against 10 Lebanese citizens in Majdal Aanjar during the dialogue session. Almustaqbal list in the West Beqaa-Rashaya list in Jeb Jennine includes MP Robert Ghanem, Minister of State Wael Abu Faour, MPs Jamal Jarrah and Antoine Saad, Amin Wehbe and Ziad al-Qadri. It was reported that 10 persons were arrested in Syria because they attended the rally with MP Hariri during his recent visit to the western Beqaa valley last week. Syria’s ambassador to Lebanon, Ali Abdel Karim Ali, presented his credentials to President Michel Sleiman in the presence of Foreign Affairs Minister Fawzi Salloukh. Ali arrived in Lebanon on May to assume his duties 12 days before the scheduled parliamentary elections. Lebanon opened its first embassy in Syria in March, five months after the neighbors established diplomatic ties following decades of turbulent relations.
