Man Charged For Impersonating Brother Of Nigerian President Yar'Adua

The police on Wednesday arraigned one Alhaji Aliyu Ahmed Yar'adua before an Abuja magistrate court for allegedly parading himself as a brother of President Umaru Musa Yar'adua.
The man who resides at No 13, Vistula Close, off Panama Street, Maitama, Abuja, was accused of committing the offence on May 25, 2009 and subsequently arrested by the police.
Prosecutor John Udeh, a deputy superintendent of police, informed the court that on May 25, 2009, one Augustine Dorsu of 14338, Rose Tree C.T., Silver Spring M.D. 20906, U.S.A, came to the FCT Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Abuja to report that the accused paraded himself as the brother of the President of Nigeria.
According to the prosecutor, the offence committed by the accused is punishable under Section 179 of the Penal Code Law.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty, and requested for bail.
Following the denial, the prosecutor asked the court for a hearing date to enable the police prepare its witnesses.
In her ruling, Magistrate Ademuyiwa Oyeyipo granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with a reasonable surety in like sum that must be a civil servant of not below grade level 10.
The magistrate also ordered that the surety must reside within the court's jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit to produce the accused in court on the adjourned date.
The case was adjourned to June 24 for hearing.
