Palestinian Factions Denounce Any Attempt To Disarm Resistance
1 June 2009
GAZA, (PIC)-- Four Palestinian major factions have agreed on the right of resisting occupation and considered resistance weapons a red line that could not be harmed or stripped. Dr. Ismail Radwan, a leading Hamas politician, said in a press statement that representatives of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, PFLP and DFLP have met late Monday night to discuss the "criminal" incident in Qalqilia where two members of Hamas's armed wing the Qassam Brigades were killed at the hands of PA security. He said that the four factions were unanimous on the Palestinian people's right to resistance and on condemning any attempt to disarm resistance, describing it as "unpatriotic". The factions asserted that security coordination with the Israeli occupation authority was not acceptable and was wrecking Palestinian national unity. A number of factions called for a parliamentary investigation into the crime in Qalqilia, Radwan pointed out. The PFLP, for its part, said that the incident should be contained for the sake of higher national interest. It described, in a statement, any measure against resistance as "harmful" to the status of resistance in its capacity as a national struggle waged by the Palestinian people against occupation. Ramzi Rabah, the DFLP politburo member, said that meetings of Palestinian forces with each of Hamas and Fatah were ongoing in Gaza and the West Bank to form an independent and neutral investigative committee into the Qalqilia incident and to contain its repercussions. Hamas: Zionist maneuvers muscle flexing Hamas on Tuesday dismissed Israel's military maneuvers as muscle-flexing aimed at mending its soldiers' collapsed morale following the defeats in Lebanon and Gaza. Fawzi Barhoum, the Hamas spokesman, said in a press statement that the rate of suicides and mental disturbances among the Israeli soldiers had increased dramatically following the Gaza war. The war exercises are also aimed at boosting the Zionist military theory based on exaggerating Israel's military might to terrify Palestinian resistance forces and regional countries in a bid to continue imposing "Zionist hegemony" and to persist in its expansionist, aggressive project, the spokesman elaborated. Barhoum asked the Arab and Islamic countries to start a new stage of uniting efforts and regional alliances in a bid to confront Zionist challenges and dangers on their land, people and sovereignty. He also championed continued support for the Palestinian people's steadfastness and resistance forces to protect the land, people and holy shrines.
