Hamas Maintains Obama's Cairo Speech Biased To Zionist Entity In Essence
5 June 2009
DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Ezzat al-Resheq, member of the political bureau of Hamas, said that although Obama's speech to the Muslim world was soft-toned towards his movement and the speech in general constituted a new departure in form, it was biased in favour the Zionist entity in essence. He told Quds press on Thursday that the position on the Middle East as expressed in Obama's speech about was not different from that of previous US administrations. He added that anyone who followed the speech could see a change in form rather than substance and that his position is not much different from previous administrations, including the administration of George Bush junior, despite its soft tone. Resheq added that Obama's bias to the Zionist entity was clear as he talked at length about the special relations that bind his country to the Zionist entity, but he never mentioned the suffering of Palestinians as a result of occupation terrorism. He pointed out that Obama asked Hamas to recognise the Zionist entity and renounce "terror" but never asked the same of the Zionist entity, neither did he ask Netanyahu to abide by the two state solution which the US claims to support. The Hamas official stressed that Obama contradicted himself when he preached the virtues of democracy and then talked about Hamas as a movement that enjoys support in the Palestinian street rather than a movement that was democratically elected by the Palestinian people. He concluded by saying that Obama's speech did not indicate real change in the US position as the Palestinian people's suffering under occupation and their legitimate right to resist the occupation are still totally ignored. Gov't committee against siege invites Obama to visit Gaza GAZA, (PIC)-- The government committee against the siege on Thursday invited US president Barack Obama, who is currently visiting Egypt, to visit Gaza Strip to see for himself the amount of suffering of one and a half million besieged Palestinians. The committee in a press statement said that Obama should come to Gaza to witness the repercussions of the oppressive siege not known before in the history of mankind. It asked Obama to pressure Israel to open the crossings and lift the siege in order to reconstruct what Israel had destroyed during its latest war on Gaza and to save thousands of families from displacement and living in the open without shelter. The committee held Obama responsible for the serious humanitarian deterioration in the Strip in his capacity as president of the US, which can pressure Israel. The statement said that the talk about democracy and supporting the weak around the world should be translated into deeds, the committee concluded.
