Al-Shabab Denies 'Government Assaults Doing Blow To The Group Fighters

Mogadishu — Sheik Ali Mohamed Hussein, a representative of Harakat Al-shabab Mujahideen for Banadir region has held a press conference for the media in Mogadishu overnight and said that the government failed its assaults against their fighters. Sheik Ali said that the government did not succeed its plans for attacking the bases of Harakat Al-shabab Mujahideen forces adding that some of the government soldiers started surrendering to Islamist forces of Haraket Al-shabab mujahideen. Sheik Ali Mohamed also called for the people in Yaqshid and Derkenley districts to be patient for the fighting and halt displacing from their houses. The statement of Harakat Al-shabab Mujahideen comes as there had been heavy fighting between forces loyal to Harakat Al-shabab Mujahideen and the government soldiers in Mogadishu in over past days that caused more casualties including deaths, wounds and large displacement. Government Officials Say They Are Planning to Recapture in Bay And Bakol Regions Government officials in Bay and Bakol regions have said that they are planning efforts to recapture those regions, official told Shabelle radio on Thursday. Abdifatah Mohamed Ibrahim known as (Gesey), the former chairman of Bay administration told reporters that they are planning efforts to recapture those regions adding that they have ability to retake control of their previous positions from Islamist forces of Harakat Al-shabab Mujahideen who are manning both regions. Harakat Al-shabab Mujahideen had captured Bay and Bakol regions from the government officials earlier and still in their hand. "Our troops are in Elberde town and the neighboring towns of Hudur, the capital of Bakol region. We are going to capture the regions," Abdifatah said. We are getting support from the transitional government led Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed and there is no Ethiopian troops accompanying us, he added. It is unclear how the Islamic administration of Bay and Bakol region will see the statement of the government officials in Elberde town in Bakol region.
