Somalia's Ahlu Sunna Waljama Begins Operations As Ethiopians Return
14 June 2009
Shabelle-Abudwak — Forces loyal to Somalia's Ahlu Sunna Waljama, a moderate Islamist group which controls parts of central Somalia have carry out security operations in the town of Abud wak in central Somalia in the second consecutive day, according to our correspondent in that town. The group has also imposed security steps in the town. The group has told that its are forces are securing the safety of the people in the town. The security initiatives Ahlu Sunna forces imposed on Abudwak town include that no one can carry weapons inside the town other Ahlu Sunna fighters. Anyone spotted carrying illegal arms in the town will be prosecuted, said a commander of the group. These security steps coincided with the visit to Abudwak by the chief commander of Ahlu Sunna in central Somalia Sheikh Adan Shiekh Abdi nur. Meanwhile, Ahlu Sunna has strongly condemned the recent killing of Shabelle director Mr. Muktar Mohamed Hirabe whom armed men shot him dead in what was a coordinated attack inside Mogadishu. In a press conference in Guri el today, Ahlu Sunna leader Sheikh Omar Sheikh Mohamed Farah has called the attack which left Hirabe as a deplorable and he called residents in Mogadishu to keep vigilant against those who carry out such attacks. Ahlu Sunna and Alshabab, another rival Islamist group have repeatedly clashed in central Somalia and their clashes left scores of their fighters and civilians dead. Ethiopian Troops Reach in Balanbal Town in Central Somalia More Ethiopian troops with several battle wagons have reached in Balanbal town in Galgudud region and made military bases in the west side of the town in central Somalia, witnesses told Shabelle radio on Saturday. Reports from the town say that the Ethiopian troops entered in the town yesterday afternoon and stationed in outside the town for the second day by not having talks with the people and residents in the town. Balanbal is a town in Galgudud region in central Somalia which is 28 kilometers in border between Somalia and Ethiopia and there is comment from the administration of the town except that they have no idea for the grounds the troops came in the town. Independent reports say that the Ethiopian troops were from the border between Somalia and Ethiopia specially the side of the Galgudud region before reaching Balanbal town. But independent reports say that the Ethiopian troops will be staying in the town for coming days. It is the first time that the Ethiopian troops reach in Balanbal town and it is also unclear why the Ethiopian troops came in the town since they left the country in the early this year.
