Eritrea: Recent Anti-Somalia Media, Diplomatic Dramas a Cover-Up For Weakness, Failure
15 July 2009
Asmara — Mr. Ali Abdu said that the recent media and diplomatic political dramas orchestrated against Somalia through allocating substantial budget are but a cover-up for weakness and failure. In an interview with Aljazeera Television, he pointed out that the futile attempts being made to link the Somali popular resistance with extremists are designed to cover up the failure of trying to impose the third illegal 'government' in Somalia. Indicating that the Somali issue is not one of extremists or non-extremists, but rather it is an issue of popular struggle to ensure the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, political unity, as well as national integration, Mr. Ali underlined that be it the Security Council or any other party has no legal mandate at all to stand above the aforementioned inviolable rights. He further stated that rumors have been disseminating as if the Somali popular resistance lacked the requisite resilient manpower and weapons with a view to giving a false picture that there exist foreign presence and arms shipment from outside, and that there is enough weaponry in Somalia itself. Mr. Ali Abdu went on to underscore that the ongoing media and diplomatic campaign is designed to make Eritrea become the victim of all concocted and fabricated acts of lie and defamation. In this respect, he asserted that Eritrea has moral and legal obligation to support the reconstitution of Somalia. Mr. Ali emphasized that the sole solution lies in creating conducive political ground that gives priority to Somalia's sovereignty, free from any external interference, and above all respecting the choice of the entire Somali people. He also underlined that it is indeed shameful to witness a number of media outlets, including Aljazeera, either intentionally or inadvertently, falling into the trap of the fabricated news coverage drama.
