Zimbabwean Prostitutes, Stripping In Front Of Motorists: Cop Accused of Beating Boss
15 July 2009
Harare — Six women were yesterday warned, cautioned and discharged for soliciting clients for the purpose of prostitution at Sports Diner nightclub along Samora Machel Avenue.. Tsitsi Zirota (26), Faith Sithole (22), Tinashe Musariri (21), Dadirai Musonzah (23), Shelter Karimanzira (21) and Memory Mandava (20), all of Harare were arrested at around 10pm last Friday at the nightclub, targeting male pedestrians and motorists for prostitution. The six pleaded guilty before Harare magistrate Mr Don Ndirowei who warned, cautioned and discharged them. Prosecutor Mr Tafadzwa Hungwe said the six unlawfully and intentionally solicited clients while stripping in front of motorists in an effort to entice them. They pleaded guilty but argued that they were unemployed and wanted to raise money for the upkeep of their families saying prostitution "is determined by supply and demand, like every other business." They claimed demand for prostitutes was high and they were making good money. Cop Accused of Beating Boss Meanwhile, a constable attached to the Anti-Stocktheft Unit in Makonde District recently beat up his senior, a chief inspector, who was trying to calm him after he became violent while being taken to prison. Constable MacDougal Dube (37) was convicted of contravening the Police Act after he stole meat that had been confiscated from a member of the public and was supposed to be presented as an exhibit in court. Dube, who had been tasked with guarding the meat, attacked his boss when police officers tried to put him in a vehicle to take him to Chikurubi Police Camp in Harare to serve his sentence in police detention. Prosecutor Mr Douglas Shumbayaonda alleges that Dube became violent when the officers tried to take him to the car. The officer-in-charge, Chief Inspector Stanley Mafa, tried to calm him down but he instead grabbed a chair and struck him on the forehead. Chief Insp Mafa sustained a deep cut and a docket was opened against Dube. The previous day, the riot squad had been called to arrest and take him to the cells after he became violent when he was convicted of stealing the meat exhibit. He has since appeared before magistrate Mrs Tendai Muchini facing charges of assaulting his officer-in-charge. In his defence during trial last Thursday, Dube alleged that Chief Insp Mafa wanted to "fix him" and he was defending himself when his superior and other officers assaulted him. Mrs Muchini adjourned the case to July 23 when she is expected to deliver judgment.
