Uganda Disposed Mufti Mubajje Attacks District Commissioner Asadu Lutale
29 July 2009
Kampala — THE Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Ramathan Mubajje, has attacked Kamuli resident district commissioner Asadu Lutale, accusing him of fuelling disunity among Muslims in the district. Addressing a gathering of Muslims at the Kamuli town main mosque after Friday Juma prayers, Mubajje accused Lutale of conniving with the faction of the rival Mufti, Sheikh Zubair Kayongo, to break into the mosque to forcefully allow Kayongo and his supporters pray in there. "It was really shameful for a full RDC and a representative of the President in the district to act in such a way. Lutale was in full army uniform with armed security personnel during the break-in. "I call upon Kamuli Muslims to desist from welcoming acts of violence by the Kibuli faction that include forcefully entering mosques and electing leaders contrary to the structures of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council," Mubajje said. The mufti vowed not to allow Kayongo to use a shortcut to take over systems and structures including power at the muslim council headquarters even if he has security and guns. "Whoever is in leadership and denounces the structures of our supreme council should be relieved of his duties immediately. "I order all district Khadis to take full responsibility of electing new Imams and chairpersons of various management committees of the different mosques," he said. Mubajje noted they would create regional administrations under the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council to foster development in districts and called upon Muslims to uphold the unity that he said has been prevailing for the last eight years under his leadership. He said plans were underway to build a Muslim university in Kamuli as requested for by the Muslims in Busoga. Mubajje said the supreme council has come up with development programmes that will benefit people especially the Muslim communities like expansion of hospitals in various districts and supporting the orphans and widows. The lands state minister, Asuman Kiyingi, who attended the function requested Mubajje to forgive all muslims from the rival faction so that they unite and develop the Muslim fraternity without wrangles. Present at the function was the Kamuli LC5 chairman, Stephen Mubiru, Bugabula North MP Gerald Menyha, the senior presidential adviser incharge of the Eastern region, Kawugu Mugaino and all district Khadis from Busoga. RDC Lutale did not attend the function nor send a representative despite the invitation sent to his office.
