Demonstration Against Indian Troops Molestation Of Kashmiri Women
29 July 2009
In occupied Kashmir, hundreds of people took to streets against the molestation of women by Indian troops of Rashtriya Rifles in Handwara town. A party of 30-Rashtriya Rifles during military operation intercepted a group of women and molested them at Gundchabotra area of the town. Indian policemen used brute force to disperse protestors at Kralgund area while they were shouting full-throated anti-India slogans. » The demonstration against Indians’ molestation of the Kashmiri women came hours before an Indian High Court had directed the occupation authorities to shift the illegally detained Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Aasiya Andrabi to Srinagar by July 31 (Friday). After hearing the petitioner, Justice Hakeen Imtiyaz Hussein directed the authorities to shift Aasiya Andrabi, presently languishing in Jammu jail, to valley by July 31. He also directed the Commissioner Secretary, Home, to appear in person in case the puppet administration failed to comply with the directions. » Protest strike in Islamabad town against troops’ atrocities Meanwhile, protest strike continued on fourth consecutive day, today, against Indian troops’ atrocities at Malakhnag, Reshi Bazar, Cheeni Chowk, Janglat Mandi, Ashajipora, Kadipora and Sarnal areas of Islamabad town. The residents of these areas said that CRPF troopers barged into their houses and smashed the windowpanes of more than 50 houses. “Inmates were beaten to pulp,” they added. The people of the town demanded release of all the youth arrested by the Indian police a few days ago. If authorities fail to release them we will call for an indefinite strike, said a leader of Islamabad committee. Meanwhile, Indian army has stopped Bakerwals from camping in many grazing areas of occupied Kashmir. Javid Rahi, Secretary Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, an organization working for the welfare of Gujjar and Bakerwals said that the army stopped Gujars and Bakerwals in Keran, Kupwara, Bandipora, Karnah, Zojila, Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and many other places from migrating to their traditional bahaks and dhoks for grazing their animals. President of the Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar United Front, Muhammad Aslam Chowdhry said that Indian army had occupied all good pasturelands of the territory and the troops’ presence in grazing areas had jeopardized their lives. »
