Hariri Will Not Succumb To Obstacles, Staying On The Right Track
8 July 2009
Lebanon First bloc MP Ahmad Fatfat asserted on Wednesday that Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri will succeed in forming the cabinet because he will overcome all the obstacles that hamper its formation. He said he is confident that the efforts exerted by Hariri will bear fruits proved by his efforts, optimism, positive consultations and the encouraging atmosphere that Premier designate provides. In a televised interview, Fatfat said "the shape of the government will be based on the majority that won the parliamentary elections, and that the opposition will play an effective role without its obstruction. Fatfat confirmed that the new cabinet is likely to be formed in 3 or 4 weeks. He strongly criticized the opposition’s media outlets for publishing news in which they reported that ‘Prime Minister-designate’ is to choose either visiting Damascus or the obstruction third vote. Fatfat noted that the President of the Republic Michel Sleiman is the guarantor and the tipping voice in the political game, “Sleiman is optimistic and relieved by the positive vibes prevailing in the country,” he stressed. He considers that Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri’s visit to Damascus before forming the cabinet would be harmful because it implies Syrian interference in the cabinet’s makeup. “But if Hariri visits Damascus officially as Prime Minister this would fall within his duties and efforts to achieve a national reconciliation,” he affirmed. Fatfat hailed the inter-Arab atmosphere which according to him “reflects positively on the Lebanese internal affairs and benefits the country. MP Khalil: We are involved in PM Hariri’s success Member of the Development and Liberation bloc MP Ali Hussein Khalil said on Wednesday the prevailing atmosphere is “positive” pointing that the government’s birth is “on the right track.” Member of the pro-Syrian Amal movement said in a televised interview “we are involved in the success of PM-designate Saad Hariri and we will help him as much as possible to remove all hindrances in the way of forming the government.” Khalil denied that House Speaker Nabih Berri (head of the Amal movement) had set the condition of acquiring the veto-share third of the government to participate in the upcoming government. He said the ‘March 8’ opposition alliance and PM Hariri are in constant contact, pointing that the opposition wants President Michel Sleiman to play a vital role in the upcoming government. Khalil expressed the opposition’s trust in PM-designate Hariri to form the government, and praised MP Walid Jumblatt’s keenness for Hariri’s success in his mission as well as his adherence to implementing the Taef agreement.
