Syrian-Saudi Consensus Emits Positive Vibes, Stopping Interfering
16 July 2009
Ongoing Health Minister Mohammad Jawad Khalifeh said Wednesday Syrian-Saudi consensus brought a positive atmosphere to the situation in Lebanon. “There is a national and public desire to form the cabinet and that “conditions now are ripe for forming a cabinet of partnership,” Khalifeh argued. He hailed the political stance taken by Speaker Nabih Berry in which he announced his adamant endorsement to the Prime minister designate Saad Hariri. Berry expressed his support in all occasions especially during the parliamentary consultations and during his meeting with MP Walid Jumblatt. Differences among the rival political camps are “vanishing now, thanks to political meetings among the leaders and parties,” he said, noting that the delay in the forming of the government is due to political divisions and crises Lebanon has been through. In a statement delivered during a gathering in Nabatiyeh, Khalifeh said the positive atmosphere is appropriate to form a national unity government. “The country is enjoying a conciliatory atmosphere and sincere intentions to form a government of national partnership towards advancing the country and enabling it to meet the challenges,” he added. Khalifeh praised premier designate Saad Hariri’s rhetoric in which he ensures forming a government based on actual partnership. Syria Not To Interfere In Formation Of Lebanese Cabinet MP Mohammed Hajjar confirmed on Wednesday that Syria would not be a part in forming the new government in Lebanon, and demanded normal relations with Syria on the two state’s levels. In a televised interview with the Future TV, Hajjar said the Lebanese renewed their confidence in the government on June 7 by granting it 71 lawmakers. He explained that Prime minister designate Saad Hariri stressed the need to form a national unity government, and hailed his positive openness to all proposals. “Hariri is highly concerned that the new government would take into considerations the interests of both the pro-government and the opposition, and would be based on the provisions of the Taïf accords and the Lebanese constitution,” Hajjar stressed. He confirmed that the March 14 “crossing to the state project” contributed largely to the victory of the ruling majority on June 7 elections, stressing on the importance of handing over Hizbullah’s arsenal to the Lebanese state.
