Eyeing The Presidency, Nigerian Shekarau Promises Good Leadership
27 July 2009
Kano — Kano State Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, has said that he will implement the manifesto of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), to enhance the socio-economic and political development of the country if he is voted into power come 2011. Speaking with reporters at a Media Lunch/ Interactive forum held in Government House, Kano, Shekarau stated that it was not the best to predict what tomorrow would be, but assured that he will be committed to giving Nigerians the best if voted into power.. He explained that he has not indicated his intention to contest the next presidential election, because according to him, he is yet to complete the second term mandate given to him by the people of Kano. When asked about rumour that he has clandestinely endorsed his successor for 2011 governorship seat, the governor declared that there is no iota of truth in the purported claims , saying that he has never backed anybody nor have any sympathy for anybody to take over from him. He further stated that the issue that he had endorsed somebody secretly as his successor was not true , adding that many people have been campaigning silently to become the next governor. The Governor explained that there was nothing bad in people showing interest in the state's number one seat, stressing that it is an indication that the party is good, meaning that people wanted to associate with good party. He stated that the party will give everybody a level playing ground to test their capability, adding that this does not mean he will not have a say on who becomes the next governor on the platform of ANPP. According to him, "I am not only a card carry member of ANPP, God also made me to be the governor ,therefore there is need for me to a say on who to succeed me."
