Hamas: IOF Confessions Solid Proof Of Committing War Crimes
16 July 2009
GAZA, (PIC) -- Hamas on Wednesday said that the confessions by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) to the Israeli Breaking the Silence organization were obvious evidence that IOF soldiers committed war crimes during the latest war on Gaza Strip. Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, said in a press release that the soldiers confessed to deliberately targeting civilians, using them as human shields, intensifying shootings and unjustifiably destroying houses. He said that the confessions made it impossible for Israel to deny responsibility over war crimes in Gaza. The credibility of international organizations especially the international arbitration court was now facing a real test, Abu Zuhri said, adding that it was no longer acceptable to ignore those crimes and the confessions of those who committed them. Those responsible for such crimes must stand trial before the international court, he emphasized. Breaking the Silence is an organization of veteran Israeli soldiers that collects testimonies of soldiers who have served in the occupied Palestinian territories. Khudari asks non-aligned summit to adopt a decision to break the siege on Gaza Meanwhile, MP Jamal Al-Khudari, the head of the popular committee against the siege, has asked leaders of the non aligned countries holding a summit in Egypt on Wednesday to adopt a decision obliging Israel to end the "oppressive" siege on Gaza Strip. Khudari in a statement on Tuesday evening said that beleaguered Gaza is always absent from the agenda of conferences to support oppressed and poor people in the world. The independent MP, who recently returned form a foreign tour aimed at rallying support for the Palestinian people, said that the world was content with issuing statements, denunciations and "shy" demands for the sake of Gaza. He underlined that such demands should turn into actual supportive practices on the ground. Gaza is still suffering from the siege on all levels, especially closure of crossings and the ban on entry of raw material and life necessitates, Khudari concluded.
