Turkish Man Shoots Wife For Chatting With Men On Internet: Soccer Star Wife Abuse
17 July 2009
A man shot his wife several times in front of the emergency unit of an Ankara hospital Tuesday, reportedly so that she would receive immediate medical attention. The assailant, identified only with his initials, H.Ö., reportedly quarreled with his wife, G.Ö., in their home in the Batikent district of the Turkish capital on Tuesday, alleging that she was talking with other men in Internet chat rooms. After the quarrel, H.Ö. took his wife to the garden of Bilgi Hospital and shot her several times in front of the hospital's emergency unit. Sources said the assailant picked the hospital for the scene of the attack to prevent his wife from dying, as doctors would have the chance to immediately provide medical attention. H.Ö. managed to flee the scene after the assault, and his wife was admitted to the emergency unit. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Galatasaray’s Turan allegedly slaps ex-girlfriend at cafe Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Young Galatasaray captain Arda Turan reportedly slapped his ex-girlfriend at a cafe on Monday after she tried to pull his trousers down, an allegation the soccer player has denied, saying they were only around joking with one another. Turan went to Assk Cafe in Istanbul's Kuruçesme neighborhood on Monday and ran into his ex-girlfriend Eda. Later, the two began joking with each other and horsing around but then started fighting. According to witnesses, the young lady attempted to pull the soccer player's trousers down, which made him angry. Turan then slapped Eda, disregarding the crowd in the cafe, and headed toward the door. However, Eda tried to prevent him from leaving by holding his arm, and Turan pushed her. Turan didn't respond to reporters' questions outside the cafe and left the scene. Turan later told the press: “I am not the kind of man to raise a hand against a woman. Eda is my ex-girlfriend. I bumped into her when I went to Assk Cafe. We chatted for a short time and joked with each other like old friends. There was no rough and tumble.” Turan's name is often in the newspapers for reasons other than his success on the soccer pitch. Intimate photographs were published on Web sites, causing Turan to say he would sue those responsible for leaking the pictures. Following a suspension after a match with Fenerbahçe, Turan did not play in the Turkcell Super League game with Hacettepe in late April and went to Paris, where he was seen at a strip club. He was also allegedly involved in a fight between a passenger and a security officer at Istanbul Atatürk Airport.
