National Stability: Yar'adua Identifies Qur’anic Reciters’ Role

PRESIDENT Umaru Musa Yar'adua has charged Islamic scholars and Qur'anic reciters to pray for peace and stability in the country. President Yar'adua gave the charge in a message during the conferment of titles to Qur'anic title holders organized by the Qur'anic Reciters Association of Nigeria held at Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Hall, Kano yesterday. Yar'adua who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Alhaji Yayale Ahmad noted that reciters play a key role in resolving Nigeria's predicament. He observed that following the actual teaching of the Glorious Qur'an can free the society from social vices. "Being the divine book for over one thousand four hundred years, it contains a true manual and correct guidelines for peaceful co-existence of any society," Yar'adua stressed. On his part, Kano state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau who was one of the recipients of the title, expressed appreciation as he reassured government’s continued commitment to the propagation of Islam and Tsangaya schools. Governor Shekarau who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, pointed out that government will soon come-up with a new programme aimed at improving Qur'anic education in the state. Couple convert to Islam in Dala LG
Meanwhile, Dala chapter of Kano state Hisbah Command has, last week, converted a couple into Islam with the chapter's commander, Malam Abdul`Azeez presiding. Delivering a short-sermon shortly after the conversion, and the recitation of Kalimat Malam Abdul`Azeez explained the rules laid down by the Almighty Allah (SWT) through His Messenger Muhammad (SAW) on how to worship Him alone ascribing no partner unto Him. The convertees whose names were Joshua and Fatima, are now to be called Muhammad and Fatima respectively considering the fact that Fatima is already an Islamic name thus it was retained. The commander commended the effort of Dala local government council's Director of Personnel Management (DPM), in rendering necessary assistance to see to the realization of the esteemed gathering. He called on other Muslims to express their thankfulness to Almighty SWT for the bounty by assisting the convertees earn a living in comfort with the new faith they accepted.
