Nigeria 2009 Hajj - Only Competent Muslims Will Go Through FCT: Kwara Payment Deadlines
11 August 2009
Only competent Muslims would be allowed to partake in this year's hajj exercise through the Federal Capital Territory Muslim Pilgrims' Welfare Board, the Director of the Board, Dr Shu'aibu Yakubu Kurfi, has said. Dr Kurfi, who gave this indication in Abuja, said it is in line with this that all pilgrims are thoroughly screened before embarking on the religious journey. He also said that the board has made concrete arrangements to comply with all the laid down regulations set out by the Saudi authorities on this year's hajj. He said during the screening, the aged, pregnant women and under aged were fished out adding that the board would ensure that those who eventually partake in the hajj operation are committed Muslims and people who will serve as good ambassadors of the country in the holy land. According to Kurfi, "The process of Hajj entails sacrifice simply for the sake of Allah, with no selfish end; it is not a jamboree, and therefore, there is no need for any one who does not know the pillars of Islam, perform ablution and the pillars of Hajj as well as say the basic Prayers to embark on the pilgrimage." Dr. Kurfi noted that the board has already come up with plans that would ensure that all pilgrims are vaccinated against the swine flu, malaria, polio and all sorts of diseases before embarking on the exercise. Kwara State Gives Deadline For 2009 Hajj Payment: Pilgrimage Through FCT Meanwhile, the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board yesterday said all intending pilgrims from the state are to pay up their hajj fares on or before August 17th or forfeit their seats. The Executive Secretary of the board Alhaji Imam Abdulkadir Shehu who said this in a chat with Daily Trust added that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) had added additional l26 seats to the initial 2,500 seats allocated to the state. Alhaji Abdulkadir said the fare was divided into three categories which include the minimum fare of N490, 000 with US$750 Basic Traveling Allowance (BTA); the medium is N528, 000 with US$ I,OOO BTA, and the maximum fare is N599,500 with US$1,500 BTA. Alhaji Shehu, who warned that the agency would not hesitate to deal with erring pilgrims, urged those yet to complete their payment to do so in their own interest, saying the deadline would not be extended. He maintained that intending pilgrims who had completed payment would have their e-passports processed immediately. He added that pregnant women would not be allowed to participate in this year's hajj exercise.
