2 August 2009
Somalia — The transitional parliament has Saturday boycotted formally an agreement about the sea which was signed earlier by both Somalia and Kenya. More than 300 MPs had met in the Somali capital Mogadishu today and discussed more on an issue about a maritime deal between the transitional government of Somalia and Kenya which lawmakers unanimously refused it pointing out that it was wrong for the government to sign that agreement. Mohamed Qanyare Afrah, a Somali MP, one of those who were in the meeting and against the deal had requested from the other MPs to boycott it saying that about 38,000 sq sea lands is supposed to be lost from Somalia. Omar Mohamed Islow, a Somali MP who was also in the parliamentary conference said that government hurried to sign the deal pointing out that the government is good to bring the minister who signed the deal before the lawmakers. Sheik Aden Mohamed Nor better known as (Madobe), the speaker of the transitional government has displayed for the parliament three articles as:-1) to refuse the deal 2) to form a committee to be responsible and 3) to postpone it and lastly announced the result of the meeting which most of the MPs agreed boycotting it. Somali Hizbul Islam Warns Aid Groups on 'Mismanagement' Meanwhile, Sheikh Salman Sahal "Abu Mussa," the social affairs head for Hizbul Islam rebel group, told reporters that humanitarian aid must be delivered fairly. "We will not tolerate that food aid intended for civilians fleeing Mogadishu be resold in open markets," Abu Mussa said, adding that Hizbul Islam is "aware" of a secret deal between aid workers and "leaders" internally displaced people's (IDPs) camps. Hizbul Islam fighters control the 30km stretch of road that connects Mogadishu to Afgoye, an agricultural town in neighboring Lower Shabelle region. The Mogadishu-Afgoye road is home to hundreds of thousands of IDPs who have fled the war in the Somali capital since early 2007. In recent weeks, IDPs who live in makeshift camps along the Mogadishu-Afgoye road have complained about lack of food and water, according to local sources.
