Islamic Group Enjoins Zamfara On Sharia
10 September 2009
Gusau — The Joint Youth Islamic Organization has called on the Zamfara State government to complement its efforts by making Sharia its priority and cardinal policy in government offices, programmes and in political circles.
The call was made by the chairman of the organization, Engineer Muhammad Usman Kwatarkwashi, at a news conference in Gusau yesterday. Kwatarkwashi said the organization was optimistic that if the Shari'a policy was adopted, it would stimulate the economy and make leadership free of corruption. The organization lamented the decline of Shari'a in some states where it was implemented, saying when it was introduced, people in those states were more organized and united with a sanitized judicial system. Commenting on the Boko Haram crisis, the organization described it as unfortunate and uncalled for, attributing the problem to youthful exuberance on the part of Sheik Muhammad Yusuf and his members.
The organization condemned the amount of money given to members of the Darul Islam sect as compensation by the Niger State government and called on it to revisit the entire operation.
On the Jos crisis, the organization expressed concern that the two investigative panels set up to look into the matter were yet to come up with any tangible report or recommendation.
