Nigerian Pilgrims Tasked With Good Conducts While In The Holy Land
12 September 2009
Ilorin — About 400 Umrah pilgrims from Kwara State have been enjoined to shun any acts capable of thwarting the current efforts of the present administration to reposition the nation's economy for the socio-economic advancement of the nation while in Saudi Arabia.
Executive Secretary of the state Pilgrims Board, Imam Abdulkadir Shehu, stated this in Ilorin, while performing the airlifting pilgrims by the Med-View Airlines at the Ilorin International Airport.
Shehu, who said this at the inspection of the airplane billed for the exercise, also warned visitors to the Holyland that there would be no refund of money due to failure on their part to keep to flight schedules.
He said "the Umrah pilgrims should shun any act that can affect the good image of the country as the rebranding efforts of the government must be adhered to strictly during their stay in Saudi Arabia."
Shehu urged the intending pilgrims to support the state government's effort in moving the country forward by adhering to the laws of the Holyland.
Speaking further, he advised the pilgrims not to travel with luggage exceeding 10 kilogrammes, adding that kolanuts should also not be taken along as Saudi authorities no longer accepted it.
Also speaking at the occasion, Managing Director of Med-view Airline, Alhaji Munir Bankole, said this would be the first time that pilgrims for the Umrah exercise would be airlifted from the Ilorin International Airport straight to Jeddah.
He said the introduction of the direct flight from Ilorin to Jeddah International airport would eliminate untold hardship encountered during the exercise previously.
