Israel Takes Advantage Of The
Palestinian Commitment To The Truce |
| |
July 13, 2008
The Hamas Movement charged on Sunday that the Israeli occupation
authority had flouted the Egyptian-brokered calm agreement and
did not implement one of its items taking advantage of the
Palestinian factions' commitment to it and the absence of any
Egyptian pressures that are supposed to be present in this case.
In a press statement, Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman, added
that the commercial crossings were not opened as agreed upon,
the siege was not lifted, and the Israeli violations increase
everyday while the Palestinian factions respected the calm,
pointing out that his Movement and Egypt followed up recently
the Israeli violations.
Barhoum underlined that Israel is also exploiting the Arab and
Islamic silence towards its excesses in the West Bank and
exercising all forms of criminality against the Palestinian
people there.
The spokesman noted that what is needed from Egypt, as a sponsor
of this agreement, is to effectively pressure the IOA to abide
by its items, adding that Egypt should realize the gravity of
not lifting the siege and continuing to close the Rafah border
crossing, the Gaza people's only vent to the outside world.
For his part, Mohamed Odwan, the director of the information
office in the administration of Gaza crossings, said that the
movement at the crossings since the calm started is not
satisfactory at all and the downsized commodities which were
allowed in today did not resolve the crisis but augmented it
because the government has in this case to establish priorities
for distribution and this may make the citizens feel that there
is a kind of nepotism.
Odwan pointed out that Israel deceived the world into thinking
that it opened the crossings and that goods are allowed in while
the fact is that there are only a limited number of trucks
carrying commodities for relief and civil institutions and
Israel counts these trucks and says to the world that it lets in
goods to Gaza.
The Israeli aggression on WB could lead to our
withdrawal from the calm
Dr. Atef Odwan, a member of the Hamas parliamentary bloc, warned
that the Israeli onslaught on the West Bank through closing
civil institutions and assassinations could drive the
Palestinian people to pressure the factions to withdraw from the
truce agreement especially since the Gaza people did not feel
that the three-week-old calm alleviated even some of their
suffering.
In a press statement to the Quds Press, Odwan said that the
Israeli occupation wants to kill two birds with one stone
through its aggression on the West Bank, where it aims to
liquidate the Palestinian resistance in order to torpedo its
decision regarding the truce, and to trespass on PA territories
as if there is no authority there.
The lawmaker underlined that since the truce started, Israel has
been working on sending messages that it is still unsatisfied
with the truce and does not accept it.
Meanwhile, in a letter addressed to the Qalqilya people and a
copy of which was received by the PIC, MP Imad Nofal, a prisoner
in Israeli jails, stated that the internal discord and the
political wrangling cast a shadow over the living conditions of
citizens and cause them great suffering and pain.
MP Nofal stressed that national unity strengthens the
Palestinian political discourse before the international
community and protects the people and their cause. |
