Tony
Blair Cancelled His Gaza Visit At The
Request Of The Zionist Regime |

July 16, 2008
Ismail Haneyya, the premier of the PA caretaker government, said
that Tony Blair, the international quartet committee's envoy,
had cancelled his visit to Gaza at the request of Israeli
premier Ehud Olmert and his army leaders so as not to witnesses
for himself the disastrous consequences of siege.
Haneyya told Ramattan news agency in a televised interview on
Tuesday that his government had adopted all necessary security
preparations to ensure success of Blair's visit but "we were
surprised at the massive pressures on him and we were surprised
to see him return (without entering Gaza)".
The premier said that he had hoped that the visit would take
place so that the international envoy would see for himself the
destructive effects of the Israeli siege so that he would
pressure the quartet committee to adopt daring decisions to lift
the oppression befalling the Gaza Strip.
Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, had stressed that Blair's
declaration of his intention to visit Gaza had announced failure
of the political isolation imposed on Hamas.
The caretaker government had announced in a statement on Tuesday
that the Israeli occupation along with "other parties" had
pressured Blair to cancel his visit so as not to witness results
of the Israeli crimes and at the same time so as not to see for
himself the high level of security and discipline the Strip
enjoys.
No resumption of talks on Shalit unless
crossings are opened
Meanwhile, Osama Hamdan, Hamas's representative in Lebanon, on
Wednesday asserted that his Movement was not interested in
having a new deal with Israel as long as it did not respect the
calm agreement.
He told Al-Quds radio station that the calm agreement should be
implemented in full including the opening of all crossings
together with the Rafah border terminal.
Israeli sources said that Hamas had frozen the prisoners'
exchange negotiations through Egyptian mediation and told
Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman that it would not send
its delegation this week to Cairo because it needs more time to
think (over the issue).
An Israeli official said that Hamas's step was meant to pressure
Egypt to open the Rafah border terminal between Egypt and Gaza
Strip.
Hamas had earlier held Israel fully responsible for delaying the
prisoners' swap deal and asked Cairo to pressure Tel Aviv to
stop wasting time. |
