Sule
Lamido would make a good governor only if... Posted
By BABANDI GUMEL
It is now almost eight years since Sharia has been introduced in some Northern States of Nigeria though few other States introduced the System at later time. Jigawa State curved out from Kano in 1991 was among the States that introduced the system when Democracy was reintroduced in Nigeria in 1999.
Like many other States that introduced Sharia which came to be known commonly as Political Sharia nicknamed by the President, Jigawa State is one of those States that are apparently operating the same kind of Political Sharia which unfortunately cannot be said to be true or sincere Sharia as operated in other States such as Kano the Senior Sister of Jigawa.
As they say to err is human and no one is perfect but at the same time we should not forget the saying practice makes perfect.
If we sincerely try to practice proper Sharia like those practicing Sharia States we would surely be ahead and not backward. If Jigawa emulates what Kano does governance or Sharia wise we would not be having the same problem we have been having in our new State.
Corruption has unfortunately become ripe and is the order of the day like in many other States and sometimes people have even forgotten that they have to give account before Allah on the Day of Judgement. Allah (S.W.T) has reminded us in His Book "Fear the Day when you will be brought back to Allah" to give account for all your good deeds or misdeeds.
This is only a reminder to all of us as Muslims and inheritors of the Quran as Allah has mentioned in His Book in Surah Fatir. "Then We gave the Book for an inheritance to those whom We chose from among Our Servants; but of them is he who does Zulm to his soul and he who takes the middle course and others who are foremost in good deeds by Allah's permission that is the Supreme Success.
So as practicing Muslims who have the love of Allah and His Prophet in our hearts we should try to justify the confidence reposed in us practicing Sharia State.
If we are running a secular system like all other secular states there is no need to remind people about Allah or Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W)who is our model as Muslims.
Jigawa being a Muslim State and the majority of people undeniably Muslims needs good governance transparency and above all the implementation of the Islamic Law that would make us successful in this life and the Hereafter.
As Muslims why are we afraid or scared of implementing Sharia which we have promised the electorates? Unfortunately many of our Sharia leaders are shying away from the question of Sharia even sometimes a bit embarrassed which is so unfortunate.
There is nothing embarrassing following the way of Rasulullah which would no doubt give us success in both Worlds. As Sharia followers we must be proud that we have been given the opportunity by the Democratic System of our Country to follow the Deen in it's totality.
Rather than shying or running away from the Divine Law we should go forward to fulfil the promise we have taken to ensure the law of Allah is being followed throughout the State. Although I don't want make sweeping statement or unnecessary allegations accusing the leaders of mismanaging our State but going by what we hear and see doesn't make good reading..
Unfortunately due to luck of purposeful leadership from the reports we have been hearing and seeing is not giving good picture about this new State secular or Sharia wise which is fast becoming political in content rather than real Sharia. At least one can say the political Sharia is better than nothing. Some States cannot even operate the Sharia System in all their Local Government Areas as a whole..
Alhamdu Lillahi Jigawa is not among those such States that run the Sharia on individual basis it has the freedom to enact the Laws of Allah throughout the State without any ifs and buts. They say if there is a will there is a way.
So the ball is left rolling in our court. All we need to do is to be serious with the system we should love Sharia from the core of our hearts as we love and eager to govern. It is left to the State to exercise this freedom to implement the Sharia throughout the State and become Islamic State otherwise it will become redundant unused secular state rendering it political Sharia which would soon fizzle as suggested.
This kind of political Sharia has so many implications and consequences one of which it gives bad impression about the whole Muslim Ummah. Not only the non-Muslims would be pinpointing accusing fingers on the Muslims saying they are also human beings like every one but unfortunately sometimes the leaders are so corrupt even worse than the Non-Muslims as we can gauge from daily experience.
So what would people be saying regarding this kind of evil practices going around in the Muslim Ummah. They see the leaders as not sincere Sharia wise and secularly not transparent neither do they govern properly nor implementing the Sharia the Divine Law which they promised to enact.
When it comes to corruption they are in the forefront as they excelled others in amassing unnecessary wealth squandering it without fear of Allah forgetting that they have to give account for any Kobo spent uselessly.
What brings all these sad but unfortunate situation ,many people are of the opinion that people do not practice the Deen which was the cheap reason for all these. Allah says Lo Salah stops from lewdness and iniquity but unfortunately today majority of the Muslim Ummah are praying five times yet they continue with their evil habits which have become routine or usual practices.
Therefore as we can see it is not luck of Salah that makes people do what they are doing now a days .People are praying quiet alright but unfortunately their Salat has not stop them from what they are doing. With this in mind Governor Sani of Zamfara State the Pioneer Governor who introduced the Sharia first in his State before spreading in other parts of Northern Nigeria would never be forgotten for his initiative.
He goes on record as pioneer Sharia Governor this is why I do personally respect him he and Governor Shekarau of Kano for their sincere effort to implement the laws of Allah in their respective States. Alhamdu Lillahi now Kano has excelled in the implementation of this System with Hisbah and Zakkah Commissions in placed.
In addition to the introduction of Societal Reorientation commonly known in Hausa as a Daidata Sahu under the guidance of Malam Bala Muhammad a seasoned Journalist the State is also trying to curb corruption like the EFCC. Unfortunately none of such Commissions exist in our beloved Jigawa State neither do we have Hisbah Board which oversees the successful running of the Sharia in the State. Governors in various States are completing their second and final terms before handing the batons of governance to their successors whoever they may be.
Jigawa like other States are battling hard to find the best and most suitable candidate that would replace the out going Governor Saminu Turaki comes May this year. Many contestants are coming out to fill this vacant post the most coveted exulted position as the Chief Executive of the Islamic State of Jigawa State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Among the contestants parading and selling themselves to the Jigawa voters included the former Foreign Minister Alhaji Sule Lamido whom we made the topic of this article. Unlike other parties Sule managed to go through the screening process of his ruling party and came out successfully clean without much hassle.
The ANPP is battling as to who would represent it in the gubernatorial battle in April. So this is why some political analysts are of the opinion that Sule Lamido could easily clinch the governorship mantle during the battle. The crucial battle would mainly be between the Ruling PDP and the ANPP although the AC would contribute a lot in this gubernatorial battle field.
Sule Lamido apparently has the edge over his opponents. We have a saying in Hausa if you are beautiful or handsome you should in addition be regular in taking bath. Similarly among all the contestants Sule Lamido was much more closer to me personally as we have known each other for over three decades as a friend comrade in struggle and above all a neighbour and founding member of the PRP.
He believed in the emancipation of the Masses making him a compatriot struggler who wants bring changes in the life of the masses alleviating their poverty which I also believe and share like many others. To bring about all these changes practically we need to go back to the root. The root of al these is Sharia Implementation which has unfortunately been abandoned or half-heartedly practiced in the State.
If we want both material and spiritual progress in the State we must endeavour to implement the divine Law throughout the State. All we want see is the full implementation of Sharia in Jigawa like Kano. So this responsibility lies on the shoulders of the incoming Governor whoever he may be..
It is high time Jigawa woke up from its slumber and joined Kano in bringing about changes that would help improve the lot of people and the State in general. We need peace, security qualitative education and above all find solution to our moral degeneration with a view to rectifying them once and for all.
The proper implementation of Sharia is the only solution to our malaise be it security educational or moral laxity.
The leaders should show better example and Sule Lamido has the good qualities of leadership which he may provide, on the condition that he implements the Sharia Law fully in the State thus combining the secular and spiritual leadership role as the new Chief Executive who would take Sharia seriously by implementing the laws of Allah enhancing his position in both Duniya and Akhirah.
Nothing is difficult if there is the real will. So over to you Sule show to all of us Citizens of Jigawa and the Muslim Ummah that you are equal to the task.
Wa Akhiri Daawana Anil Hamdu Lillahi Rabbil Alameen
