The Importance Of Ruling By Islam - A Complete Law, The Shari’ah

This Dien has never been sent down to us as a religion only or merely as a spiritual booster. This is a Rabbani (Godly) way of life that Allah SWT sent down to His Messenger and commanded him to organize and regulate the interests of mankind with a complete law – the Shari’ah.

Before the arrival of Islam, the Mushrikeen and Ahlul Kitab (people of the books) were living in darkness, just as how they are now. They do not have a rabbani way of life and principles to be followed, as they are having a book sent down to the prophets before Prophet Muhammad, in which the contents have been much corrupted; the consequences are that they are governing mankind with oppression and tyranny (man-made law).

Allah SWT then sent His Messenger, Muhammad SAW, to them with a rabbani way of life that would abolish and eradicate the norms, traditions, as well as their religion; also at the same time introduce to them an alternative system of governance that would liberate them from oppressions and corruptions. This is the main objective of why Islam was sent down – to raise mankind out of darkness, who had earlier worshipped fake gods (including man-made law) and to regulate the society with a rabbani law (Shari’ah) which is entirely complete.

Furthermore, Allah SWT sent down 114 surahs and 6000 plus verses, which does not only tell us to perform solat and sawm, the Qur’an is a criterion, a constitution and guide book, which informs mankind of how to save themselves from disorderliness and messes on this earth, as well as for achieving the real security in this life and the infinite one in the future (akhirah).

Allah SWT says in His Book:

“He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what We enjoined upon Abrahan and Moses and Jesus – to establish the religion and not be divided therein. Difficult for those who associate others with Allah is that to which you invite them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back (to Him).” (QS Ash Shura 42: 13)

“Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth so you may judge between the people by that which Allah has revealed to you. And do not be for the deceitful an advocate.” (QS An Nisa 4: 105)

There are a lot of verses and statements in the Qur’an and books of Sunnah that highlight the importance of ruling by Islam, and politically organize the society's ineterests. In one verse Allah SWT shows to us how serious this issue is by mentioning the pople who do not judge with His Book as kafirun, zaalimuun, and fasiqun.

“…And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, then it is those who the unbelievers (kafir).” (QS Al-Maidah 5: 44)

The only way for us to get rid, as much as possible, the above portrayal and characteristics from ourselves is by struggling to implement the Dien collectively (in jama’ah), and by supporting the people who come from amongst the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah and who are fighting a battle for the sake of implementing the Shari’ah. Indeed, those who do not take part in this noble struggle are not the people who truly have iman, and they would perhaps die in a country similar to those who die before the rise of Islam (jahiliyyah), just as Rasulullah SAW said:

“The people who retract their hands from obedience, would not find relief at the time when they stand in front of Allah on Judgment Day and whoever dies without having bai'at, he will die like the death of the people of jahililiyyah.” (HR. Muslim)

O Muslims! If our focus are truly to seek the pleasure of Allah SWT, the way we should be, we would evaluate our selves and see how much we have struggled for the Dien of Allah.

Wallahu’alam bis Sowab!
