1st Ayah 1 الأية ١الأوليبِسْم ِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى
Sabbihi isma rabbika al-aAAla
Sahih International
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,
Muhsin Khan
Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High,
Pickthall
Praise the name of thy Lord the Most High,
Yusuf Ali
Glorify the name of thy Guardian-Lord Most High,
Shakir
Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High,
Dr. Ghali
Extol The Name of your Lord, The Most Exalted,
|
Ayah 87:2 الأية
الَّذِي خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
Allathee khalaqa fasawwa
Sahih International
Who created and proportioned
Muhsin Khan
Who has created (everything), and then proportioned it;
Pickthall
Who createth, then disposeth;
Yusuf Ali
Who hath created, and further, given order and proportion;
Shakir
Who creates, then makes complete,
Dr. Ghali
Who created; so He molded;
|
Ayah 87:3 الأية
وَالَّذِي قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ
Wallathee qaddara fahada
Sahih International
And Who destined and [then] guided
Muhsin Khan
And Who has measured (preordainments for each and everything even to be blessed
or wretched); then guided (i.e. showed mankind the right as well as wrong paths,
and guided the animals to pasture);
Pickthall
Who measureth, then guideth;
Yusuf Ali
Who hath ordained laws. And granted guidance;
Shakir
And Who makes (things) according to a measure, then guides (them to their goal),
Dr. Ghali
And Who determined; so He guided;

Ayah 87:4 الأية
وَالَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعَىٰ
Wallathee akhraja almarAAa
Sahih International
And who brings out the pasture
Muhsin Khan
And Who brings out the pasturage,
Pickthall
Who bringeth forth the pasturage,
Yusuf Ali
And Who bringeth out the (green and luscious) pasture,
Shakir
And Who brings forth herbage,
Dr. Ghali
And Who brought out the pasturage,
|
Ayah 87:5 الأية
فَجَعَلَهُ غُثَاءً أَحْوَىٰ
FajaAAalahu ghuthaan ahwa
Sahih International
And [then] makes it black stubble.
Muhsin Khan
And then makes it dark stubble.
Pickthall
Then turneth it to russet stubble.
Yusuf Ali
And then doth make it (but) swarthy stubble.
Shakir
Then makes it dried up, dust-colored.
Dr. Ghali
Then He made it a dark (Or: stubble including all pasturage) stubble.

Ayah 87:6 الأية
سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰ
Sanuqri-oka fala tansa
Sahih International
We will make you recite, [O Muhammad], and you will not forget,
Muhsin Khan
We shall make you to recite (the Quran), so you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))
shall not forget (it),
Pickthall
We shall make thee read (O Muhammad) so that thou shalt not forget
Yusuf Ali
By degrees shall We teach thee to declare (the Message), so thou shalt not
forget,
Shakir
We will make you recite so you shall not forget,
Dr. Ghali
We will soon make you read so you will not forget,
|
Ayah 87:7 الأية
إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ اللهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ الْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ
Illa ma shaa Allahuinnahu yaAAlamu aljahra wama yakhfa
Sahih International
Except what Allah should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is
hidden.
Muhsin Khan
Except what Allah, may will, He knows what is apparent and what is hidden.
Pickthall
Save that which Allah willeth. Lo! He knoweth the disclosed and that which still
is hidden;
Yusuf Ali
Except as Allah wills: For He knoweth what is manifest and what is hidden.
Shakir
Except what Allah pleases, surely He knows the manifest, and what is hidden.
Dr. Ghali
Excepting whatever Allah decides; surely He knows audible speech and what is
concealed.

Ayah 87:8 الأية
وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ
Wanuyassiruka lilyusra
Sahih International
And We will ease you toward ease.
Muhsin Khan
And We shall make easy for you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) the easy way
(i.e. the doing of righteous deeds).
Pickthall
And We shall ease thy way unto the state of ease.
Yusuf Ali
And We will make it easy for thee (to follow) the simple (Path).
Shakir
And We will make your way smooth to a state of ease.
Dr. Ghali
And We will ease you to the Easiest (way).
|
Ayah 87:9 الأية
فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَىٰ
Fathakkir in nafaAAati aththikra
Sahih International
So remind, if the reminder should benefit;
Muhsin Khan
Therefore remind (men) in case the reminder profits (them).
Pickthall
Therefor remind (men), for of use is the reminder.
Yusuf Ali
Therefore give admonition in case the admonition profits (the hearer).
Shakir
Therefore do remind, surely reminding does profit.
Dr. Ghali
So remind, in case the Reminding profits.
|
Ayah 87:10 الأية
سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ
Sayaththakkaru man yakhsha
Sahih International
He who fears [ Allah ] will be reminded.
Muhsin Khan
The reminder will be received by him who fears (Allah),
Pickthall
He will heed who feareth,
Yusuf Ali
The admonition will be received by those who fear (Allah):
Shakir
He who fears will mind,
Dr. Ghali
He who is apprehensive will constantly remember,
|
Ayah 87:11 الأية
وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْأَشْقَى
Wayatajannabuha al-ashqa
Sahih International
But the wretched one will avoid it -
Muhsin Khan
But it will be avoided by the wretched,
Pickthall
But the most hapless will flout it,
Yusuf Ali
But it will be avoided by those most unfortunate ones,
Shakir
And the most unfortunate one will avoid it,
Dr. Ghali
And the most wretched will avoid it,
|
Ayah 87:12 الأية
الَّذِي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْكُبْرَىٰ
Allathee yasla annaraalkubra
Sahih International
[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,
Muhsin Khan
Who will enter the great Fire and made to taste its burning,
Pickthall
He who will be flung to the great Fire
Yusuf Ali
Who will enter the Great Fire,
Shakir
Who shall enter the great fire;
Dr. Ghali
(He) who will roast in the Greatest Fire,
|
Ayah 87:13 الأية
ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
Thumma la yamootu feeha walayahya
Sahih International
Neither dying therein nor living.
Muhsin Khan
Wherein he will neither die (to be in rest) nor live (a good living).
Pickthall
Wherein he will neither die nor live.
Yusuf Ali
In which they will then neither die nor live.
Shakir
Then therein he shall neither live nor die.
Dr. Ghali
Thereafter he will neither die therein, nor live.
|
Ayah 87:14 الأية
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ
Qad aflaha man tazakka
Sahih International
He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself
Muhsin Khan
Indeed whosoever purifies himself (by avoiding polytheism and accepting Islamic
Monotheism) shall achieve success,
Pickthall
He is successful who groweth,
Yusuf Ali
But those will prosper who purify themselves,
Shakir
He indeed shall be successful who purifies himself,
Dr. Ghali
He has already prospered who has cleansed himself.
|
Ayah 87:15 الأية
وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّىٰ
Wathakara isma rabbihi fasalla
Sahih International
And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.
Muhsin Khan
And remembers (glorifies) the Name of his Lord (worships none but Allah), and
prays (five compulsory prayers and Nawafil additional prayers).
Pickthall
And remembereth the name of his Lord, so prayeth,
Yusuf Ali
And glorify the name of their Guardian-Lord, and (lift their hearts) in prayer.
Shakir
And magnifies the name of his Lord and prays.
Dr. Ghali
And who remembers the Name of his Lord, so he prays.

Ayah 87:16 الأية
بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
Bal tu/thiroona alhayata addunya
Sahih International
But you prefer the worldly life,
Muhsin Khan
Nay, you prefer the life of this world;
Pickthall
But ye prefer the life of the world
Yusuf Ali
Day (behold), ye prefer the life of this world;
Shakir
Nay! you prefer the life of this world,
Dr. Ghali
No indeed, (but) you prefer the present life, (Literally: the lowly life, i.e.,
the life of this world).

Ayah 87:17 الأية
وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ
Wal-akhiratu khayrun waabqa
Sahih International
While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
Muhsin Khan
Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
Pickthall
Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
Yusuf Ali
But the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
Shakir
While the hereafter is better and more lasting.
Dr. Ghali
And the Hereafter is more charitable (i.e., better) and more enduring.

Ayah 87:18 الأية
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولَىٰ
Inna hatha lafee assuhufial-oola
Sahih International
Indeed, this is in the former scriptures,
Muhsin Khan
Verily! This is in the former Scriptures,
Pickthall
Lo! This is in the former scrolls.
Yusuf Ali
And this is in the Books of the earliest (Revelation),-
Shakir
Most surely this is in the earlier scriptures,
Dr. Ghali
Surely this is in the earliest Scrolls,

Ayah 87:19 الأية
صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ
Suhufi ibraheema wamoosa
Sahih International
The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
Muhsin Khan
The Scriptures of Ibrahim (Abraham) and Musa (Moses).
Pickthall
The Books of Abraham and Moses.
Yusuf Ali
The Books of Abraham and Moses.
Shakir
The scriptures of Ibrahim and Musa.
Dr. Ghali
The Scrolls of Ibrahim and Musa (Abraham and Moses respectively).
