Alif, Lam, Meem, Ra. These are the verses of the Book; and what has been
revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not
believe.
Muhsin Khan
Alif-Lam-Mim-Ra [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but
Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book (the
Quran), and that which has been revealed unto you (Muhammad SAW) from your Lord
is the truth, but most men believe not.
Pickthall
Alif. Lam. Mim. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture. That which is revealed
unto thee from thy Lord is the Truth, but most of mankind believe not.
Yusuf Ali
A.L.M.R. These are the signs (or verses) of the Book: that which hath been
revealed unto thee from thy Lord is the Truth; but most men believe not.
Shakir
Alif Lam Mim Ra. These are the verses of the Book; and that which is revealed to
you from your Lord is the truth, but most people do not believe.
Dr. Ghali
Alif, Lam, Mim, Ra (These are the names of letters of the Arabic alphabet, and
only Allah knows their meaning here). Those are the ayat (Verses, signs) of the
Book; and that which has been sent to you from your Lord is the Truth, but most
of mankind do not believe.
It is Allah who erected the heavens without pillars that you [can] see; then He
established Himself above the Throne and made subject the sun and the moon, each
running [its course] for a specified term. He arranges [each] matter; He details
the signs that you may, of the meeting with your Lord, be certain.
Muhsin Khan
Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that you can see. Then,
He Istawa (rose above) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty).
He has subjected the sun and the moon (to continue going round)! Each running
(its course) for a term appointed. He regulates all affairs, explaining the Ayat
(proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail, that
you may believe with certainty in the meeting with your Lord.
Pickthall
Allah it is Who raised up the heavens without visible supports, then mounted the
Throne, and compelled the sun and the moon to be of service, each runneth unto
an appointed term; He ordereth the course; He detaileth the revelations, that
haply ye may be certain of the meeting with your Lord.
Yusuf Ali
Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; is
firmly established on the throne (of authority); He has subjected the sun and
the moon (to his Law)! Each one runs (its course) for a term appointed. He doth
regulate all affairs, explaining the signs in detail, that ye may believe with
certainty in the meeting with your Lord.
Shakir
Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that you see, and He is
firm in power and He made the sun and the moon subservient (to you); each one
pursues its course to an appointed time; He regulates the affair, making clear
the signs that you may be certain of meeting your Lord.
Dr. Ghali
Allah is He Who raised up the heavens without pillars you (can) see, thereafter
He leveled Himself up on the Throne; (How He did so is beyond human
understanding) and He subjected the sun and the moon, each one running to a
stated term. He conducts the Command; He expounds the signs that possibly you
would have certitude of the meeting with your Lord.
And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and
rivers; and from all of the fruits He made therein two mates; He causes the
night to cover the day. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.
Muhsin Khan
And it is He Who spread out the earth, and placed therein firm mountains and
rivers and of every kind of fruits He made Zawjain Ithnain (two in pairs - may
mean two kinds or it may mean: of two sorts, e.g. black and white, sweet and
sour, small and big, etc.) He brings the night as a cover over the day. Verily,
in these things, there are Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) for
people who reflect.
Pickthall
And He it is Who spread out the earth and placed therein firm hills and flowing
streams, and of all fruits He placed therein two spouses (male and female). He
covereth the night with the day. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who
take thought.
Yusuf Ali
And it is He who spread out the earth, and set thereon mountains standing firm
and (flowing) rivers: and fruit of every kind He made in pairs, two and two: He
draweth the night as a veil o'er the Day. Behold, verily in these things there
are signs for those who consider!
Shakir
And He it is Who spread the earth and made in it firm mountains and rivers, and
of all fruits He has made in it two kinds; He makes the night cover the day;
most surely there are signs in this for a people who reflect.
Dr. Ghali
And He is (The One) Who extended the earth and made therein anchorages and
rivers; and of all products He made therein two pairs, enveloping the daytime
with the night. Surely in that are indeed signs for a people who meditate.
And within the land are neighboring plots and gardens of grapevines and crops
and palm trees, [growing] several from a root or otherwise, watered with one
water; but We make some of them exceed others in [quality of] fruit. Indeed in
that are signs for a people who reason.
Muhsin Khan
And in the earth are neighbouring tracts, and gardens of vines, and green crops
(fields etc.), and date-palms, growing out two or three from a single stem root,
or otherwise (one stem root for every palm ), watered with the same water, yet
some of them We make more excellent than others to eat. Verily, in these things,
there are Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs) for the people who
understand.
Pickthall
And in the Earth are neighbouring tracts, vineyards and ploughed lands, and
date-palms, like and unlike, which are watered with one water. And we have made
some of them to excel others in fruit. Lo! herein verily are portents for people
who have sense.
Yusuf Ali
And in the earth are tracts (diverse though) neighbouring, and gardens of vines
and fields sown with corn, and palm trees - growing out of single roots or
otherwise: watered with the same water, yet some of them We make more excellent
than others to eat. Behold, verily in these things there are signs for those who
understand!
Shakir
And in the earth there are tracts side by side and gardens of grapes and corn
and palm trees having one root and (others) having distinct roots-- they are
watered with one water, and We make some of them excel others in fruit; most
surely there are signs in this for a people who understand.
Dr. Ghali
And in the earth are tracts neighboring each other, and gardens of vineyards and
plantation, and palms in pairs and other than in pairs, (Or: having the same
root or different ones) watered with one water; and We have graced some of them
over others (Literally: some "others") in crop. Surely in that are signs for a
people who consider.
And if you are astonished, [O Muhammad] - then astonishing is their saying,
"When we are dust, will we indeed be [brought] into a new creation?" Those are
the ones who have disbelieved in their Lord, and those will have shackles upon
their necks, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein
eternally.
Muhsin Khan
And if you (O Muhammad SAW) wonder (at these polytheists who deny your message
of Islamic Monotheism and have taken besides Allah others for worship who can
neither harm nor benefit), then wondrous is their saying: "When we are dust,
shall we indeed then be (raised) in a new creation?" They are those who
disbelieve in their Lord! They are those who will have iron chains tying their
hands to their necks. They will be dwellers of the Fire to abide therein.
Pickthall
And if thou wonderest, then wondrous is their saying: When we are dust, are we
then forsooth (to be raised) in a new creation? Such are they who disbelieve in
their Lord; such have carcans on their necks; such are rightful owners of the
Fire, they will abide therein.
Yusuf Ali
If thou dost marvel (at their want of faith), strange is their saying: "When we
are (actually) dust, shall we indeed then be in a creation renewed?" They are
those who deny their Lord! They are those round whose necks will be yokes (of
servitude): they will be Companions of the Fire, to dwell therein (for aye)!
Shakir
And if you would wonder, then wondrous is their saying: What! when we are dust,
shall we then certainly be in a new creation? These are they who disbelieve in
their Lord, and these have chains on their necks, and they are the inmates of
the fire; in it they shall abide.
Dr. Ghali
And in case you would wonder, then (really) wondrous is their saying, "When we
are dust, will we surely be (raised) indeed in a new creation?" Those are they
who have disbelieved in their Lord and those will have the shackles on their
necks, and those will be companions (i.e., inhabitants) of the Fire; they are
therein eternally (abiding).
They impatiently urge you to bring about evil before good, while there has
already occurred before them similar punishments [to what they demand]. And
indeed, your Lord is full of forgiveness for the people despite their
wrongdoing, and indeed, your Lord is severe in penalty.
Muhsin Khan
They ask you to hasten the evil before the good, yet (many) exemplary
punishments have indeed occurred before them. But verily, your Lord is full of
Forgiveness for mankind inspite of their wrong-doing. And verily, your Lord is
(also) Severe in punishment.
Pickthall
And they bid thee hasten on the evil rather than the good, when exemplary
punishments have indeed occurred before them. But lo! thy Lord is rich in pardon
for mankind despite their wrong, and lo! thy Lord is strong in punishment.
Yusuf Ali
They ask thee to hasten on the evil in preference to the good: Yet have come to
pass, before them, (many) exemplary punishments! But verily thy Lord is full of
forgiveness for mankind for their wrong-doing, and verily thy Lord is (also)
strict in punishment.
Shakir
And they ask you to hasten on the evil before the good, and indeed there have
been exemplary punishments before them; and most surely your Lord is the Lord of
forgiveness to people, notwithstanding their injustice; and most surely your
Lord is severe in requiting (evil).
Dr. Ghali
And they would have you hasten the odious before the fair, and there have
already passed away even before them exemplary (punishments). And surely your
Lord is indeed The Owner of forgiveness to mankind for all their injustice, and
surely your Lord is indeed strict in punishment.
And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from
his Lord?" You are only a warner, and for every people is a guide.
Muhsin Khan
And the disbelievers say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?"
You are only a warner, and to every people there is a guide.
Pickthall
Those who disbelieve say: If only some portent were sent down upon him from his
Lord! Thou art a warner only, and for every folk a guide.
Yusuf Ali
And the Unbelievers say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?" But
thou art truly a warner, and to every people a guide.
Shakir
And those who disbelieve say: Why has not a sign been sent down upon him from
his Lord? You are only a warner and (there is) a guide for every people.
Dr. Ghali
And the ones who have disbelieved say, "Had there been a sign sent down upon him
from his Lord!" Surely you are only a constant warner, and for every people a
guide.
Allah knows what every female carries and what the wombs lose [prematurely] or
exceed. And everything with Him is by due measure.
Muhsin Khan
Allah knows what every female bears, and by how much the wombs fall short (of
their time or number) or exceed. Everything with Him is in (due) proportion.
Pickthall
Allah knoweth that which every female beareth and that which the wombs absorb
and that which they grow. And everything with Him is measured.
Yusuf Ali
Allah doth know what every female (womb) doth bear, by how much the wombs fall
short (of their time or number) or do exceed. Every single thing is before His
sight, in (due) proportion.
Shakir
Allah knows what every female bears, and that of which the wombs fall short of
completion and that in which they increase; and there is a measure with Him of
everything.
Dr. Ghali
Allah knows what every female bears (i.e. conceives) and what the wombs
subsiding (i.e., what wombs fall short of or exceed) and increase, (i.e., what
wombs fall short of or exceed) and everything in His Providence has (its)
(perfect) determination.
It is the same [to Him] concerning you whether one conceals [his] speech or one
publicizes it and whether one is hidden by night or conspicuous [among others]
by day.
Muhsin Khan
It is the same (to Him) whether any of you conceal his speech or declare it
openly, whether he be hid by night or go forth freely by day.
Pickthall
Alike of you is he who hideth the saying and he who noiseth it abroad, he who
lurketh in the night and he who goeth freely in the daytime.
Yusuf Ali
It is the same (to Him) whether any of you conceal his speech or declare it
openly; whether he lie hid by night or walk forth freely by day.
Shakir
Alike (to Him) among you is he who conceals (his) words and he who speaks them
openly, and he who hides himself by night and (who) goes forth by day.
Dr. Ghali
Equal of you is he who keeps his saying secret and who speaks aloud and he who
conceals himself in the night and he who sallies by daytime.
For each one are successive [angels] before and behind him who protect him by
the decree of Allah . Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people
until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people
ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.
Muhsin Khan
For each (person), there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They
guard him by the Command of Allah. Verily! Allah will not change the good
condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness
themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to
Allah). But when Allah wills a people's punishment, there can be no turning back
of it, and they will find besides Him no protector.
Pickthall
For him are angels ranged before him and behind him, who guard him by Allah's
command. Lo! Allah changeth not the condition of a folk until they (first)
change that which is in their hearts; and if Allah willeth misfortune for a folk
there is none that can repel it, nor have they a defender beside Him.
Yusuf Ali
For each (such person) there are (angels) in succession, before and behind him:
They guard him by command of Allah. Allah does not change a people's lot unless
they change what is in their hearts. But when (once) Allah willeth a people's
punishment, there can be no turning it back, nor will they find, besides Him,
any to protect.
Shakir
For his sake there are angels following one another, before him and behind him,
who guard him by Allah's commandment; surely Allah does not change the condition
of a people until they change their own condition; and when Allah intends evil
to a people, there is no averting it, and besides Him they have no protector.
Dr. Ghali
For him are (angels) taking turns (on end) even before him (Literally: between
his two hands) and even behind him, preserving him from the Command of Allah.
Surely Allah does not change what is in a people until they change what is in
themselves; and when Allah wills (to inflict) an odious (treatment) on a people,
then there is no turning back for it; and apart from Him, in no way do they have
any patron.
It is He who shows you lightening, [causing] fear and aspiration, and generates
the heavy clouds.
Muhsin Khan
It is He who shows you the lightning, as a fear (for travellers) and as a hope
(for those who wait for rain). And it is He Who brings up (or originates) the
clouds, heavy (with water).
Pickthall
He it is Who showeth you the lightning, a fear and a hope, and raiseth the heavy
clouds.
Yusuf Ali
It is He Who doth show you the lightning, by way both of fear and of hope: It is
He Who doth raise up the clouds, heavy with (fertilising) rain!
Shakir
He it is Who shows you the lightning causing fear and hope and (Who) brings up
the heavy cloud.
Dr. Ghali
He is The (One) Who shows you the lightning, for fear and longing (of Him), and
(who) brings into being the heavy clouds.
And the thunder exalts [ Allah ] with praise of Him - and the angels [as well]
from fear of Him - and He sends thunderbolts and strikes therewith whom He wills
while they dispute about Allah ; and He is severe in assault.
Muhsin Khan
And Ar-Ra'd(thunder) glorifies and praises Him, and so do the angels because of
His Awe, He sends the thunderbolts, and therewith He strikes whom He wills, yet
they (disbelievers) dispute about Allah. And He is Mighty in strength and Severe
in punishment.
Pickthall
The thunder hymneth His praise and (so do) the angels for awe of Him. He
launcheth the thunderbolts and smiteth with them whom He will while they dispute
(in doubt) concerning Allah, and He is mighty in wrath.
Yusuf Ali
Nay, thunder repeateth His praises, and so do the angels, with awe: He flingeth
the loud-voiced thunder-bolts, and therewith He striketh whomsoever He will..yet
these (are the men) who (dare to) dispute about Allah, with the strength of His
power (supreme)!
Shakir
And the thunder declares His glory with His praise, and the angels too for awe
of Him; and He sends the thunderbolts and smites with them whom He pleases, yet
they dispute concerning Allah, and He is mighty in prowess.
Dr. Ghali
And the thunder extols (with) His praise and the Angels out of the fright of
Him; and He sends the stunning (thunderbolts) (and) so He afflicts with them
whomever He decides. And they dispute about Allah, and He is strict in
(equitable) contriving.
To Him [alone] is the supplication of truth. And those they call upon besides
Him do not respond to them with a thing, except as one who stretches his hands
toward water [from afar, calling it] to reach his mouth, but it will not reach
it [thus]. And the supplication of the disbelievers is not but in error [i.e.
futility].
Muhsin Khan
For Him (Alone) is the Word of Truth (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped
but He). And those whom they (polytheists and disbelievers) invoke, answer them
no more than one who stretches forth his hand (at the edge of a deep well) for
water to reach his mouth, but it reaches him not, and the invocation of the
disbelievers is nothing but an error (i.e. of no use).
Pickthall
Unto Him is the real prayer. Those unto whom they pray beside Allah respond to
them not at all, save as (is the response to) one who stretcheth forth his hands
toward water (asking) that it may come unto his mouth, and it will never reach
it. The prayer of disbelievers goeth (far) astray.
Yusuf Ali
For Him (alone) is prayer in Truth: any others that they call upon besides Him
hear them no more than if they were to stretch forth their hands for water to
reach their mouths but it reaches them not: for the prayer of those without
Faith is nothing but (futile) wandering (in the mind).
Shakir
To Him is due the true prayer; and those whom they pray to besides Allah give
them no answer, but (they are) like one who stretches forth his two hands
towards water that it may reach his mouth, but it will not reach it; and the
prayer of the unbelievers is only in error.
Dr. Ghali
To Him is the call of Truth. And the ones upon whom they invoke, apart from Him,
do not respond to them in anything, except it is as one who stretches out his
hands to water that it may reach his mouth; and in no way will it reach it. And
in no way does the invocation of the disbelievers go anywhere except in error.
And to Allah prostrates whoever is within the heavens and the earth, willingly
or by compulsion, and their shadows [as well] in the mornings and the
afternoons.
Muhsin Khan
And unto Allah (Alone) falls in prostration whoever is in the heavens and the
earth, willingly or unwillingly, and so do their shadows in the mornings and in
the afternoons.
Pickthall
And unto Allah falleth prostrate whosoever is in the heavens and the earth,
willingly or unwillingly, as do their shadows in the morning and the evening
hours.
Yusuf Ali
Whatever beings there are in the heavens and the earth do prostrate themselves
to Allah (Acknowledging subjection),- with good-will or in spite of themselves:
so do their shadows in the morning and evenings.
Shakir
And whoever is in the heavens and the earth makes obeisance to Allah only,
willingly and unwillingly, and their shadows too at morn and eve.
Dr. Ghali
And to Allah prostrate themselves whoever are in the heavens and the earth,
willingly and unwillingly, and their shadows (prostrate) in the early mornings
and (the hours) before sunset. A prostration is to be performed here.
Say, "Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?" Say, " Allah ." Say, "Have you then
taken besides Him allies not possessing [even] for themselves any benefit or any
harm?" Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is darkness equivalent to
light? Or have they attributed to Allah partners who created like His creation
so that the creation [of each] seemed similar to them?" Say, " Allah is the
Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing."
Muhsin Khan
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?" Say: "(It
is) Allah." Say: "Have you then taken (for worship) Auliya' (protectors, etc.)
other than Him, such as have no power either for benefit or for harm to
themselves?" Say: "Is the blind equal to the one who sees? Or darkness equal to
light? Or do they assign to Allah partners who created the like of His creation,
so that the creation (which they made and His creation) seemed alike to them."
Say: "Allah is the Creator of all things, He is the One, the Irresistible."
Pickthall
Say (O Muhammad): Who is Lord of the heavens and the earth? Say: Allah. Say:
Take ye then (others) beside Him for protectors, which, even for themselves,
have neither benefit nor hurt? Say: Is the blind man equal to the seer, or is
darkness equal to light? Or assign they unto Allah partners who created the like
of His creation so that the creation (which they made and His creation) seemed
alike to them? Say: Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the
Almighty.
Yusuf Ali
Say: "Who is the Lord and Sustainer of the heavens and the earth?" Say: "(It is)
Allah." Say: "Do ye then take (for worship) protectors other than Him, such as
have no power either for good or for harm to themselves?" Say: "Are the blind
equal with those who see? Or the depths of darkness equal with light?" Or do
they assign to Allah partners who have created (anything) as He has created, so
that the creation seemed to them similar? Say: "Allah is the Creator of all
things: He is the One, the Supreme and Irresistible."
Shakir
Say: Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?-- Say: Allah. Say: Do you
take then besides Him guardians who do not control any profit or harm for
themselves? Say: Are the blind and the seeing alike? Or can the darkness and the
light be equal? Or have they set up with Allah associates who have created
creation like His, so that what is created became confused to them? Say: Allah
is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Supreme.
Dr. Ghali
Say, "Who is The Lord of the heavens and the earth?" Say, " Allah." Say, "Then
have you taken to yourselves, apart from Him, constant patrons (who) do not
possess for themselves neither profit nor harm?" Say, "Are the blind (man) and
the beholding (one) equal? Or even are the darknesses and the light equal?" Or
have they made up for Allah associates who created the like of His creation, so
that creation appeared similar to them? Say, " Allah is The Creator of
everything and He is The One, The Superb Vanquisher."
He sends down from the sky, rain, and valleys flow according to their capacity,
and the torrent carries a rising foam. And from that [ore] which they heat in
the fire, desiring adornments and utensils, is a foam like it. Thus Allah
presents [the example of] truth and falsehood. As for the foam, it vanishes,
[being] cast off; but as for that which benefits the people, it remains on the
earth. Thus does Allah present examples.
Muhsin Khan
He sends down water (rain) from the sky, and the valleys flow according to their
measure, but the flood bears away the foam that mounts up to the surface, and
(also) from that (ore) which they heat in the fire in order to make ornaments or
utensils, rises a foam like unto it, thus does Allah (by parables) show forth
truth and falsehood. Then, as for the foam it passes away as scum upon the
banks, while that which is for the good of mankind remains in the earth. Thus
Allah sets forth parables (for the truth and falsehood, i.e. Belief and
disbelief).
Pickthall
He sendeth down water from the sky, so that valleys flow according to their
measure, and the flood beareth (on its surface) swelling foam - from that which
they smelt in the fire in order to make ornaments and tools riseth a foam like
unto it - thus Allah coineth (the similitude of) the true and the false. Then,
as for the foam, it passeth away as scum upon the banks, while, as for that
which is of use to mankind, it remaineth in the earth. Thus Allah coineth the
similitudes.
Yusuf Ali
He sends down water from the skies, and the channels flow, each according to its
measure: But the torrent bears away to foam that mounts up to the surface. Even
so, from that (ore) which they heat in the fire, to make ornaments or utensils
therewith, there is a scum likewise. Thus doth Allah (by parables) show forth
Truth and Vanity. For the scum disappears like forth cast out; while that which
is for the good of mankind remains on the earth. Thus doth Allah set forth
parables.
Shakir
He sends down water from the cloud, then watercourses flow (with water)
according to their measure, and the torrent bears along the swelling foam, and
from what they melt in the fire for the sake of making ornaments or apparatus
arises a scum like it; thus does Allah compare truth and falsehood; then as for
the scum, it passes away as a worthless thing; and as for that which profits the
people, it tarries in the earth; thus does Allah set forth parables.
Dr. Ghali
He sends down from the heaven water so that valleys flow, each to its determined
(course), so that the flood carries away (on its surface) a swelling scum. And
from that on which they kindle fire (i.e., or) seeking (to make) ornaments or
belongings, out of that there is a scum like it. Thus Allah strikes the Truth
and the untruth. So, as for the scum, then it goes away as jetsam (i.e.,
vanishes as useless) and as for whatever profits mankind, then it stays in the
earth. Thus Allah strikes the similitudes.
For those who have responded to their Lord is the best [reward], but those who
did not respond to Him - if they had all that is in the earth entirely and the
like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby. Those
will have the worst account, and their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the
resting place.
Muhsin Khan
For those who answered their Lord's Call [believed in the Oneness of Allah and
followed His Messenger Muhammad SAW i.e. Islamic Monotheism] is Al-Husna (i.e.
Paradise). But those who answered not His Call (disbelieved in the Oneness of
Allah and followed not His Messenger Muhammad SAW), if they had all that is in
the earth together with its like, they would offer it in order to save
themselves (from the torment, it will be in vain). For them there will be the
terrible reckoning. Their dwelling place will be Hell; - and worst indeed is
that place for rest.
Pickthall
For those who answered Allah's call is bliss; and for those who answered not His
call, if they had all that is in the earth, and therewith the like thereof, they
would proffer it as ransom. Such will have a woeful reckoning, and their
habitation will be hell, a dire abode.
Yusuf Ali
For those who respond to their Lord, are (all) good things. But those who
respond not to Him,- Even if they had all that is in the heavens and on earth,
and as much more, (in vain) would they offer it for ransom. For them will the
reckoning be terrible: their abode will be Hell,- what a bed of misery!
Shakir
For those who respond to their Lord is good; and (as for) those who do not
respond to Him, had they all that is in the earth and the like thereof with it
they would certainly offer it for a ransom. (As for) those, an evil reckoning
shall be theirs and their abode is hell, and evil is the resting-place.
Dr. Ghali
For the ones who have responded to their Lord, (the reward) is the fairest; and
the ones have not responded to Him, if they had whatever is in the earth
altogether and the like of it with it, they would indeed have ransomed
themselves with it. Those will have an odious reckoning and their abode will be
Hell; and miserable is the resting place!
Then is he who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the
truth like one who is blind? They will only be reminded who are people of
understanding -
Muhsin Khan
Shall he then who knows that what has been revealed unto you (O Muhammad SAW)
from your Lord is the truth be like him who is blind? But it is only the men of
understanding that pay heed.
Pickthall
Is he who knoweth that what is revealed unto thee from thy Lord is the truth
like him who is blind? But only men of understanding heed;
Yusuf Ali
Is then one who doth know that that which hath been revealed unto thee from thy
Lord is the Truth, like one who is blind? It is those who are endued with
understanding that receive admonition;-
Shakir
Is he then who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the
truth like him who is blind? Only those possessed of understanding will mind,
Dr. Ghali
So, is he who knows that what has been sent down to you from your Lord is the
Truth, like him who is blind? Surely only the ones endowed with intellects do
remind themselves-
And those who join that which Allah has ordered to be joined and fear their Lord
and are afraid of the evil of [their] account,
Muhsin Khan
Those who join that which Allah has commanded to be joined (i.e. they are good
to their relatives and do not sever the bond of kinship), fear their Lord, and
dread the terrible reckoning (i.e. abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds
which Allah has forbidden and perform all kinds of good deeds which Allah has
ordained).
Pickthall
Such as unite that which Allah hath commandeth should be joined, and fear their
Lord, and dread a woeful reckoning;
Yusuf Ali
Those who join together those things which Allah hath commanded to be joined,
hold their Lord in awe, and fear the terrible reckoning;
Shakir
And those who join that which Allah has bidden to be joined and have awe of
their Lord and fear the evil reckoning.
Dr. Ghali
And who hold together what Allah has commanded to be held together, and are
apprehensive of their Lord, and fear an odious reckoning,
And those who are patient, seeking the countenance of their Lord, and establish
prayer and spend from what We have provided for them secretly and publicly and
prevent evil with good - those will have the good consequence of [this] home -
Muhsin Khan
And those who remain patient, seeking their Lord's Countenance, perform As-Salat
(Iqamat-as-Salat), and spend out of that which We have bestowed on them,
secretly and openly, and defend against evil with good, for such there is a good
end;
Pickthall
Such as persevere in seeking their Lord's Countenance and are regular in prayer
and spend of that which We bestow upon them secretly and openly, and overcome
evil with good. Theirs will be the sequel of the (heavenly) Home,
Yusuf Ali
Those who patiently persevere, seeking the countenance of their Lord; Establish
regular prayers; spend, out of (the gifts) We have bestowed for their
sustenance, secretly and openly; and turn off Evil with good: for such there is
the final attainment of the (eternal) home,-
Shakir
And those who are constant, seeking the pleasure of their Lord, and keep up
prayer and spend (benevolently) out of what We have given them secretly and
openly and repel evil with good; as for those, they shall have the (happy) issue
of the abode
Dr. Ghali
And who (endure) patiently seeking the Face of their Lord, and keep up the
prayer, and expend of whatever We have provided them, secretly and in public,
and who parry an odious (act) with a fair one; those will have the (Ultimate)
Outcome of the Residence.
Gardens of perpetual residence; they will enter them with whoever were righteous
among their fathers, their spouses and their descendants. And the angels will
enter upon them from every gate, [saying],
Muhsin Khan
'Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), which they shall enter and (also)
those who acted righteously from among their fathers, and their wives, and their
offspring. And angels shall enter unto them from every gate (saying):
Pickthall
Gardens of Eden which they enter, along with all who do right of their fathers
and their helpmeets and their seed. The angels enter unto them from every gate,
Yusuf Ali
Gardens of perpetual bliss: they shall enter there, as well as the righteous
among their fathers, their spouses, and their offspring: and angels shall enter
unto them from every gate (with the salutation):
Shakir
The gardens of perpetual abode which they will enter along with those who do
good from among their parents and their spouses and their offspring; and the
angels will enter in upon them from every gate:
Dr. Ghali
Gardens of Adn, (Eden) which they will enter, and the ones who were righteous of
their fathers and their spouses and their off springs (will enter too); and the
Angels will enter to them from every gate.
But those who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it and sever that
which Allah has ordered to be joined and spread corruption on earth - for them
is the curse, and they will have the worst home.
Muhsin Khan
And those who break the Covenant of Allah, after its ratification, and sever
that which Allah has commanded to be joined (i.e. they sever the bond of kinship
and are not good to their relatives), and work mischief in the land, on them is
the curse (i.e. they will be far away from Allah's Mercy); And for them is the
unhappy (evil) home (i.e. Hell).
Pickthall
And those who break the covenant of Allah after ratifying it, and sever that
which Allah hath commanded should be joined, and make mischief in the earth:
theirs is the curse and theirs the ill abode.
Yusuf Ali
But those who break the Covenant of Allah, after having plighted their word
thereto, and cut asunder those things which Allah has commanded to be joined,
and work mischief in the land;- on them is the curse; for them is the terrible
home!
Shakir
And those who break the covenant of Allah after its confirmation and cut asunder
that which Allah has ordered to be joined and make mischief in the land; (as
for) those, upon them shall be curse and they shall have the evil (issue) of the
abode.
Dr. Ghali
And the ones who break the covenant of Allah even after His compact, and cut
(off) what Allah has commanded to be held together, and who corrupt in the
earth, those will have the curse and they will have an odious Residence.
Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. And they rejoice
in the worldly life, while the worldly life is not, compared to the Hereafter,
except [brief] enjoyment.
Muhsin Khan
Allah increases the provision for whom He wills, and straitens (it for whom He
wills), and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of this
world as compared with the Hereafter is but a brief passing enjoyment.
Pickthall
Allah enlargeth livelihood for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He
will); and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of the world
is but brief comfort as compared with the Hereafter.
Yusuf Ali
Allah doth enlarge, or grant by (strict) measure, the sustenance (which He
giveth) to whomso He pleaseth. (The wordly) rejoice in the life of this world:
But the life of this world is but little comfort in the Hereafter.
Shakir
Allah amplifies and straitens the means of subsistence for whom He pleases; and
they rejoice in this world's life, and this world's life is nothing compared
with the hereafter but a temporary enjoyment.
Dr. Ghali
Allah outspreads the provision for whomever He decides and determines (it); and
they exult with (the present) life; (Literally: the lowly "life", i.e., the life
of this world) and in no way is the present life, beside the Hereafter,
(anything) except a (passing) enjoyment (Literally: belongings).
And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from
his Lord?" Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, Allah leaves astray whom He wills and
guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him] -
Muhsin Khan
And those who disbelieve say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him (Muhammad SAW)
from his Lord?" Say: "Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills and guides unto
Himself those who turn to Him in repentance."
Pickthall
Those who disbelieve say: If only a portent were sent down upon him from his
Lord! Say: Lo! Allah sendeth whom He will astray, and guideth unto Himself all
who turn (unto Him),
Yusuf Ali
The Unbelievers say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?" Say:
"Truly Allah leaveth, to stray, whom He will; But He guideth to Himself those
who turn to Him in penitence,-
Shakir
And those who disbelieve say: Why is not a sign sent down upon him by his Lord?
Say: Surely Allah makes him who will go astray, and guides to Himself those who
turn (to Him).
Dr. Ghali
And the ones who have disbelieved say, "If only a sign had been sent down upon
him from his Lord!" Say, "Surely Allah leads into error whomever He decides and
He guides to Him whomever has turned penitent."
Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah
. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured."
Muhsin Khan
Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose
hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, Verily, in the remembrance of
Allah do hearts find rest.
Pickthall
Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily
in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest!
Yusuf Ali
"Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of
Allah: for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find
satisfaction.
Shakir
Those who believe and whose hearts are set at rest by the remembrance of Allah;
now surely by Allah's remembrance are the hearts set at rest.
Dr. Ghali
The ones who have believed and whose hearts (feel) composed with the Remembrance
of Allah -verily in the Remembrance of Allah the hearts are composed!
Those who have believed and done righteous deeds - a good state is theirs and a
good return.
Muhsin Khan
Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and work
righteousness, Tuba (it means all kinds of happiness or name of a tree in
Paradise) is for them and a beautiful place of (final) return.
Pickthall
Those who believe and do right: Joy is for them, and bliss (their) journey's
end.
Yusuf Ali
"For those who believe and work righteousness, is (every) blessedness, and a
beautiful place of (final) return."
Shakir
(As for) those who believe and do good, a good final state shall be theirs and a
goodly return.
Dr. Ghali
The ones who have believed and done deeds of righteousness will have blessedness
(Literally: goodness) and a fair resorting.
Thus have We sent you to a community before which [other] communities have
passed on so you might recite to them that which We revealed to you, while they
disbelieve in the Most Merciful. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no deity except
Him. Upon Him I rely, and to Him is my return."
Muhsin Khan
Thus have We sent you (O Muhammad SAW) to a community before whom other
communities have passed away, in order that you might recite unto them what We
have inspired to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Beneficient (Allah) Say:
"He is my Lord! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)!
In Him is my trust, and to Him will be my return with repentance."
Pickthall
Thus We send thee (O Muhammad) unto a nation, before whom other nations have
passed away, that thou mayst recite unto them that which We have inspired in
thee, while they are disbelievers in the Beneficent. Say: He is my Lord; there
is no Allah save Him. In Him do I put my trust and unto Him is my recourse.
Yusuf Ali
Thus have we sent thee amongst a People before whom (long since) have (other)
Peoples (gone and) passed away; in order that thou mightest rehearse unto them
what We send down unto thee by inspiration; yet do they reject (Him), the Most
Gracious! Say: "He is my Lord! There is no god but He! On Him is my trust, and
to Him do I turn!"
Shakir
And thus We have sent you among a nation before which other nations have passed
away, that you might recite to them what We have revealed to you and (still)
they deny the Beneficent Allah. Say: He is my Lord, there is no god but He; on
Him do I rely and to Him is my return.
Dr. Ghali
Thus We have sent you among a nation even before which other nations have
already passed away, to recite to them what We have revealed to you, and they
disbelieve in The All-Merciful. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no god except He;
on Him I put my trust and to Him is my repenting."
And if there was any qur'an by which the mountains would be removed or the earth
would be broken apart or the dead would be made to speak, [it would be this
Qur'an], but to Allah belongs the affair entirely. Then have those who believed
not accepted that had Allah willed, He would have guided the people, all of
them? And those who disbelieve do not cease to be struck, for what they have
done, by calamity - or it will descend near their home - until there comes the
promise of Allah . Indeed, Allah does not fail in [His] promise.
Muhsin Khan
And if there had been a Quran with which mountains could be moved (from their
places), or the earth could be cloven asunder, or the dead could be made to
speak (it would not have been other than this Quran). But the decision of all
things is certainly with Allah. Have not then those who believe yet known that
had Allah willed, He could have guided all mankind? And a disaster will not
cease to strike those who disbelieve because of their (evil) deeds or it (i.e.
the disaster) settle close to their homes, until the Promise of Allah comes to
pass. Certainly, Allah does not fail in His Promise.
Pickthall
Had it been possible for a Lecture to cause the mountains to move, or the earth
to be torn asunder, or the dead to speak, (this Qur'an would have done so). Nay,
but Allah's is the whole command. Do not those who believe know that, had Allah
willed, He could have guided all mankind? As for those who disbelieve, disaster
ceaseth not to strike them because of what they do, or it dwelleth near their
home until the threat of Allah come to pass. Lo! Allah faileth not to keep the
tryst.
Yusuf Ali
If there were a Qur'an with which mountains were moved, or the earth were cloven
asunder, or the dead were made to speak, (this would be the one!) But, truly,
the command is with Allah in all things! Do not the Believers know, that, had
Allah (so) willed, He could have guided all mankind (to the right)? But the
Unbelievers,- never will disaster cease to seize them for their (ill) deeds, or
to settle close to their homes, until the promise of Allah come to pass, for,
verily, Allah will not fail in His promise.
Shakir
And even if there were a Quran with which the mountains were made to pass away,
or the earth were travelled over with it, or the dead were made to speak
thereby; nay! the commandment is wholly Allah's, Have not yet those who believe
known that if Allah please He would certainly guide all the people? And (as for)
those who disbelieve, there will not cease to afflict them because of what they
do a repelling calamity, or it will alight close by their abodes, until the
promise of Allah comes about; surely Allah will not fail in (His) promise.
Dr. Ghali
And if there had been a Qur'an whereby the mountains were made to travel or the
earth were cut up (into pieces) or the dead were spoken to-no indeed, to Allah
is the Command altogether. Have the ones who have believed then not learned
(Literally: despaired "of human efforts") that, if Allah decided, He would
indeed have guided mankind altogether? And a smiler will not cease afflicting
the ones who have disbelieved for what they have worked, (i.e., what they have
done) or it (i.e., the punishment) alights near their residence until the
promise of Allah comes up to them. Surely Allah does not fail His promised
appointment.
And already were [other] messengers ridiculed before you, and I extended the
time of those who disbelieved; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My
penalty.
Muhsin Khan
And indeed (many) Messengers were mocked at before you (O Muhammad SAW), but I
granted respite to those who disbelieved, and finally I punished them. Then how
(terrible) was My Punishment!
Pickthall
And verily messengers (of Allah) were mocked before thee, but long I bore with
those who disbelieved. At length I seized them, and how (awful) was My
punishment!
Yusuf Ali
Mocked were (many) messengers before thee: but I granted respite to the
unbelievers, and finally I punished them: Then how (terrible) was my requital!
Shakir
And messengers before you were certainly mocked at, but I gave respite to those
who disbelieved, then I destroyed them; how then was My requital (of evil)?
Dr. Ghali
And Messengers indeed were readily mocked at even before you; so I reprieved the
ones who disbelieved; thereafter I took them (away). So how was My punishment!
Then is He who is a maintainer of every soul, [knowing] what it has earned,
[like any other]? But to Allah they have attributed partners. Say, "Name them.
Or do you inform Him of that which He knows not upon the earth or of what is
apparent of speech?" Rather, their [own] plan has been made attractive to those
who disbelieve, and they have been averted from the way. And whomever Allah
leaves astray - there will be for him no guide.
Muhsin Khan
Is then He (Allah) Who takes charge (guards, maintains, provides, etc.) of every
person and knows all that he has earned (like any other deities who know
nothing)? Yet they ascribe partners to Allah. Say: "Name them! Is it that you
will inform Him of something He knows not in the earth or is it (just) a show of
false words." Nay! To those who disbelieve, their plotting is made fairseeming,
and they have been hindered from the Right Path, and whom Allah sends astray,
for him, there is no guide.
Pickthall
Is He Who is aware of the deserts of every soul (as he who is aware of nothing)?
Yet they ascribe unto Allah partners. Say: Name them. Is it that ye would inform
Him of something which He knoweth not in the earth? Or is it but a way of
speaking? Nay but their contrivance is made seeming fair for those who
disbelieve and they are kept from the right road. He whom Allah sendeth astray,
for him there is no guide.
Yusuf Ali
Is then He who standeth over every soul (and knoweth) all that it doth, (like
any others)? And yet they ascribe partners to Allah. Say: "But name them! is it
that ye will inform Him of something he knoweth not on earth, or is it (just) a
show of words?" Nay! to those who believe not, their pretence seems pleasing,
but they are kept back (thereby) from the path. And those whom Allah leaves to
stray, no one can guide.
Shakir
Is He then Who watches every soul as to what it earns? And yet they give
associates to Allah! Say: Give them a name; nay, do you mean to inform Him of
what He does not know in the earth, or (do you affirm this) by an outward
saying? Rather, their plans are made to appear fair-seeming to those who
disbelieve, and they are kept back from the path; and whom Allah makes err, he
shall have no guide.
Dr. Ghali
So, is He Who is Ever Upright over every self for what it has earned (as any
other)? And they have made up for Allah associates. Say, "Name them! Or even
will you (really) inform Him of what He does not know in the earth? Or even in
outward speech? No indeed, but adorned (i.e., made attractive) for the ones who
have disbelieved is their scheming, (and) they are barred from the way; and
whomever Allah leads into error, then in no way has he any guide."
For them will be punishment in the life of [this] world, and the punishment of
the Hereafter is more severe. And they will not have from Allah any protector.
Muhsin Khan
For them is a torment in the life of this world, and certainly, harder is the
torment of the Hereafter. And they have no protector against Allah.
Pickthall
For them is torment in the life of the world, and verily the doom of the
Hereafter is more painful, and they have no defender from Allah.
Yusuf Ali
For them is a penalty in the life of this world, but harder, truly, is the
penalty of the Hereafter: and defender have they none against Allah.
Shakir
They shall have chastisement in this world's life, and the chastisement of the
hereafter is certainly more grievous, and they shall have no protector against
Allah.
Dr. Ghali
For them is torment in the present life; and indeed the torment of the Hereafter
is (yet) more arduous; and in no way do they have any protector from Allah.
The example of Paradise, which the righteous have been promised, is [that]
beneath it rivers flow. Its fruit is lasting, and its shade. That is the
consequence for the righteous, and the consequence for the disbelievers is the
Fire.
Muhsin Khan
The description of the Paradise which the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2): have
been promised! -Underneath it rivers flow, its provision is eternal and so is
its shade, this is the end (final destination) of the Muttaqun (pious - see
V.2:2), and the end (final destination) of the disbelievers is Fire. (See Verse
47:15)
Pickthall
A similitude of the Garden which is promised unto those who keep their duty (to
Allah): Underneath it rivers flow; its food is everlasting, and its shade; this
is the reward of those who keep their duty, while the reward of disbelievers is
the Fire.
Yusuf Ali
The parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised!- beneath it flow
rivers: perpetual is the enjoyment thereof and the shade therein: such is the
end of the Righteous; and the end of Unbelievers in the Fire.
Shakir
A likeness of the garden which the righteous are promised; there now beneath it
rivers, its food and shades are perpetual; this is the requital of those who
guarded (against evil), and the requital of the unbelievers is the fire.
Dr. Ghali
The likeness of the Garden that is promised to the pious: from beneath it rivers
run, its crop is permanent and its shade. That is the Ultimate Outcome of the
ones who have been pious, and the Ultimate Outcome of the disbelievers is the
Fire.
And [the believers among] those to whom We have given the [previous] Scripture
rejoice at what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], but among the [opposing]
factions are those who deny part of it. Say, "I have only been commanded to
worship Allah and not associate [anything] with Him. To Him I invite, and to Him
is my return."
Muhsin Khan
Those to whom We have given the Book (such as 'Abdullah bin Salam and other Jews
who embraced Islam), rejoice at what has been revealed unto you (i.e. the
Quran), but there are among the Confederates (from the Jews and pagans) those
who reject a part thereof. Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I am commanded only to worship
Allah (Alone) and not to join partners with Him. To Him (Alone) I call and to
Him is my return."
Pickthall
Those unto whom We gave the Scripture rejoice in that which is revealed unto
thee. And of the clans there are who deny some of it. Say: I am commanded only
that I serve Allah and ascribe unto Him no partner. Unto Him I cry, and unto Him
is my return.
Yusuf Ali
Those to whom We have given the Book rejoice at what hath been revealed unto
thee: but there are among the clans those who reject a part thereof. Say: "I am
commanded to worship Allah, and not to join partners with Him. Unto Him do I
call, and unto Him is my return."
Shakir
And those to whom We have given the Book rejoice in that which has been revealed
to you, and of the confederates are some who deny a part of it. Say: I am only
commanded that I should serve Allah and not associate anything with Him, to Him
do I invite (you) and to Him is my return.
Dr. Ghali
And the ones to whom We have brought the Book exult with what has been sent down
to you. And of the parties there are the ones who deny some of it. Say, "Surely
I have been only commanded to worship Allah and not to associate (anything) with
Him. To Him I call, and to Him is my resorting."
And thus We have revealed it as an Arabic legislation. And if you should follow
their inclinations after what has come to you of knowledge, you would not have
against Allah any ally or any protector.
Muhsin Khan
And thus have We sent it (the Quran) down to be a judgement of authority in
Arabic. Were you (O Muhammad SAW) to follow their (vain) desires after the
knowledge which has come to you, then you will not have any Wali (protector) or
defender against Allah.
Pickthall
Thus have We revealed it, a decisive utterance in Arabic; and if thou shouldst
follow their desires after that which hath come unto thee of knowledge, then
truly wouldst thou have from Allah no protecting friend nor defender.
Yusuf Ali
Thus have We revealed it to be a judgment of authority in Arabic. Wert thou to
follow their (vain) desires after the knowledge which hath reached thee, then
wouldst thou find neither protector nor defender against Allah.
Shakir
And thus have We revealed it, a true judgment in Arabic, and if you follow their
low desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you shall not have against
Allah any guardian or a protector.
Dr. Ghali
And thus We have sent it down as Arabic judgment. And indeed in case you ever
follow their prejudices after what has come to you of knowledge, in no way will
you have from Allah a patron, nor a protector.
And We have already sent messengers before you and assigned to them wives and
descendants. And it was not for a messenger to come with a sign except by
permission of Allah . For every term is a decree.
Muhsin Khan
And indeed We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW), and made for them
wives and offspring. And it was not for a Messenger to bring a sign except by
Allah's Leave. (For) each and every matter there is a Decree (from Allah).
Pickthall
And verily We sent messengers (to mankind) before thee, and We appointed for
them wives and offspring, and it was not (given) to any messenger that he should
bring a portent save by Allah's leave. For everything there is a time
prescribed.
Yusuf Ali
We did send messengers before thee, and appointed for them wives and children:
and it was never the part of a messenger to bring a sign except as Allah
permitted (or commanded). For each period is a Book (revealed).
Shakir
And certainly We sent messengers before you and gave them wives and children,
and it is not in (the power of) an messenger to bring a sign except by Allah's
permission; for every term there is an appointment.
Dr. Ghali
And indeed We have already sent Messengers even before you, and We made for them
spouses and offspring; and in no way was it for a Messenger to come up with a
sign except by the permission of Allah. Every term has a Book.
And whether We show you part of what We promise them or take you in death, upon
you is only the [duty of] notification, and upon Us is the account.
Muhsin Khan
Whether We show you (O Muhammad SAW) part of what We have promised them or cause
you to die, your duty is only to convey (the Message) and on Us is the
reckoning.
Pickthall
Whether We let thee see something of that which We have promised them, or make
thee die (before its happening), thine is but conveyance (of the message). Ours
the reckoning.
Yusuf Ali
Whether We shall show thee (within thy life-time) part of what we promised them
or take to ourselves thy soul (before it is all accomplished),- thy duty is to
make (the Message) reach them: it is our part to call them to account.
Shakir
And We will either let you see part of what We threaten them with or cause you
to die, for only the delivery of the message is (incumbent) on you, while
calling (them) to account is Our (business).
Dr. Ghali
And whether We show you some (form of punishment) which We promise them, or We
take you to Us, surely it is only for you to (carry out) the proclamation, and
for Us is the reckoning.
Have they not seen that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders? And
Allah decides; there is no adjuster of His decision. And He is swift in account.
Muhsin Khan
See they not that We gradually reduce the land (of disbelievers, by giving it to
the believers, in war victories) from its outlying borders. And Allah judges,
there is none to put back His Judgement and He is Swift at reckoning.
Pickthall
See they not how we aim to the land, reducing it of its outlying parts? (When)
Allah doometh there is none that can postpone His doom, and He is swift at
reckoning.
Yusuf Ali
See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its
outlying borders? (Where) Allah commands, there is none to put back His Command:
and He is swift in calling to account.
Shakir
Do they not see that We are bringing destruction upon the land by curtailing it
of its sides? And Allah pronounces a doom-- there is no repeller of His decree,
and He is swift to take account.
Dr. Ghali
And have they not seen that We come up to the earth diminishing it in its
extremities? And Allah judges; none reverses His judgment and He is swift at the
reckoning.
And those before them had plotted, but to Allah belongs the plan entirely. He
knows what every soul earns, and the disbelievers will know for whom is the
final home.
Muhsin Khan
And verily, those before them did devise plots, but all planning is Allah's. He
knows what every person earns, and the disbelievers will know who gets the good
end (final destination).
Pickthall
Those who were before them plotted; but all plotting is Allah's. He knoweth that
which each soul earneth. The disbelievers will come to know for whom will be the
sequel of the (heavenly) Home.
Yusuf Ali
Those before them did (also) devise plots; but in all things the master-planning
is Allah's He knoweth the doings of every soul: and soon will the Unbelievers
know who gets home in the end.
Shakir
And those before them did indeed make plans, but all planning is Allah's; He
knows what every soul earns, and the unbelievers shall come to know for whom is
the (better) issue of the abode.
Dr. Ghali
And the ones who were even before them already schemed. Yet to Allah is the
scheming altogether. He knows whatever every self earns, and the steadfast
disbelievers will soon know to whom will be the (Ultimate) Outcome of the
Residence!
And those who have disbelieved say, "You are not a messenger." Say, [O
Muhammad], "Sufficient is Allah as Witness between me and you, and [the witness
of] whoever has knowledge of the Scripture."
Muhsin Khan
And those who disbelieve, say: "You (O Muhammad SAW) are not a Messenger." Say:
"Sufficient for a witness between me and you is Allah and those too who have
knowledge of the Scripture (such as 'Abdullah bin Salam and other Jews and
Christians who embraced Islam)."
Pickthall
They who disbelieve say: Thou art no messenger (of Allah). Say: Allah, and
whosoever hath knowledge of the Scripture, is sufficient witness between me and
you.
Yusuf Ali
The Unbelievers say: "No messenger art thou." Say: "Enough for a witness between
me and you is Allah, and such as have knowledge of the Book."
Shakir
And those who disbelieve say: You are not a messenger. Say: Allah is sufficient
as a witness between me and you and whoever has knowledge of the Book.
Dr. Ghali
And the ones who have disbelieved say, "You are not an Emissary." Say, " Allah
suffices as an Ever-Present Witness between me and you, and whoever has in his
presence Knowledge of the Book (is also a witness)."
